Again I agree all are members but people like this do NOT offer home inspections. They do cleaning? They have been listed as a cleaning company for at least a few years because I've seen them listed for a few years.

So I Know they are members and fulfilled all requirement to be a member and or stay a member.... but they do not offer home inspections. If I called them tomorrow and asked for a home inspection what do you think they would say?

You are right Nick they are all members. InterNACHI members. So I do not see 1 person listed in InspectorSeek that is not a member of InterNACHI.

So my understanding now is ALL members are listed in InspectorSeek regardless if you offer home inspections or not.

You see I had a misunderstanding of how InspectorSeek functioned. There are still some other relevant issues to contend with, I'm sure the InterNACHI staff will work them out, you always do!

Here is an example of what David and Ray are saying, multiple listings. Also with this particular search, which is for an IL. city, the majority work out of Mo. because that is within the zip code area. IL. is Lic. and Mo. isn't, and most of them do not offer services in IL. I'm sure they feel the same when I show up on their Mo. listings. IMHO, we should have the opportunity to be listed with ONE zip code, say a 20 mi. radius, instead of TEN zip codes which allows you to get listed in half of the state. Or in my case 2 states.

The system will essentially do an InspectorSeek.com search on the city it thinks the viewer is in, and select the top 5 results for that city to show on the front page. That search is based mostly on location, and then randomized. So InterNACHI members closest to the search location will show up closer (and this is based on your "primary place of business"—not your actual location), but if two or more inspectors are equidistant from the search location, their placement is randomized each time so that the sorting is fair. That means that each member will rotate on and off the front page depending on where people are searching from. When a visitor clicks the "More" button they will see the full search results.

How does using the location the system thinks the person doing the search located in help them find a home inspector in the area they are buying a home in? I have many clients who live in areas or states far away from where they are buying their home. So if I as a home buyer login on my computer in Providence, RI to find an inspector in Deep River, CT I would first be presented with a list of Providence, RI home inspectors. Maybe I misunderstood your explanation, but this new system seems confusing and more onerous than the old system.

Shouldn't the consumer be provided with a list of home inspectors and allow them to make the choice? By placing some inspectors at the top, the consumer receives the impression that these are the "top inspectors in that area. In that aspect the new site resembles more of a paid listing site that has different levels of listing.

The geocoding of my site is not very accurate. South of Meriden is not that close to my primary market.

Correct me if I am wrong, but consumers will still have the option of selecting what city, state or zipcode they want to search.

It's the users initial visit to the site that recognizes their IP address and returns "their" local inspectors, but then they can do their own search anywhere around the country.

As Brian and David mentioned, the geocoding is only used to take a best guess at 0-click content—that is, content that is presented to the user without any action on his or her part. At least 50% of the time it'll be wrong, but that doesn't really hurt anyone (it's better to show content that's helpful 50% of the time than to show nothing). There is also an SEO aspect of this, as Googlebot (and other search spiders) use IP addresses from all over the country to simulate real searchers. By having contextually relevant content on the home page for different major regions we can promote other InspectorSeek pages, and the pages of our members more effectively.

Yeah, the geocoding is only accurate to about 20-25 miles, so often it's going to pick the wrong city/town. That's why we're going to be using the nearest major metro area instead. So for your particular case you would see Hartford, CT Home Inspectors.

Nick, how about this guy who is listed in IL. cities why being based in Mo. with no IL. Lic. and the kicker he mentions several Memberships and Affiliations but doesn't mention iNACHI anywhere on his website.
