Subject: Foundation/Sill Plate question

Hello;
I'm trying to find out if it is recommended to use pressure treated sill plates (as opposed to plain wood 2x6) when using ICF basement foundation walls. Our sub-contractor claims it is not necessary, but the specs. call for it. I'd appreciate any help you could give me!

Thanks!

Martha,

Per the 2003 International Residential Code section R319.1: an approved, pressure treated lumber must be used -#2 All wood framing members that rest on concrete or masonry exterior foundation walls and are less than 8 inches from the exposed ground.

Does this meen that on a house that has a walkout basement with 2½ sides of the house that are 2 story (ranch house + basement) block or pored basement walls, would only need treated lumber on the 1½ or 2 sides that have earth against them?

The IRC Code will need to be changed along with the Ban of CCA treated lumber.
