I don't think it's their immigration policies. Our policies are even laxer. It's their misguided effort to thwart assimilation. Second- and third-generation immigrants think of themselves as Arabs or Muslims, not Frenchmen.

How to be a good liberal...(according to the person who emailed this to me)

1. You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans are
more of a threat, than nuclear weapons technology in the hands of the
Islamic State of Iran.

2. You have to believe that the same teacher who can't teach 4th graders how
to read is somehow qualified to teach those same kids about sex.

3. You have to believe the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of federal
funding.

4. You have to believe that there was no art before Federal funding.

5. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by
cyclical, documented changes in the earth's climate, and more affected by
big trucks on our highways and yuppies driving SUVs.

6. You have to believe that gender roles are artificial but being homosexual
is natural.

7. You have to be against capital punishment but support abortion on demand.

8. You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments
create prosperity.

9. You have to believe that hunters don't care about nature, but loony
activists who've never been outside of Seattle do.

10. You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than actually
doing something to earn it.

11. You have to believe the military, not corrupt politicians, start wars.

12. You have to believe the NRA is bad, because it supports certain parts of
the Constitution, while the ACLU is good, because it supports certain parts
of the Constitution.

13. You have to believe that taxes are too low, but ATM fees are too high.

14. You have to believe that Margaret Sanger, Spike Lee, Gloria Steinmen,
Jesse Jackson are more important to American history than Thomas Jefferson,
General Robert E. Lee or Thomas Edison.

15. You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial
quotas and set-asides aren't.

16. You have to believe Hillary Clinton is really a lady.

17. You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn't worked
anywhere it's been tried, is because the right people haven't been in
charge.

18. You have to believe conservatives telling the truth belong in jail,but a
liar and sex offender belongs in the White House.

19. You have to believe that homosexual parades displaying drag,
transvestites and bestiality should be constitutionally protected and manger
scenes at Christmas should be illegal.

20. You have to believe that illegal Democratic party funding by the Chinese
is somehow in the best interest of the United States.

Let the games begin.....

Me and my family (especially my 8-year-old daugter Jessi) will mourn his loss.

Did he do some very risky (and foolish) things? Sure. But that was part of who he was, and - more importantly - the way he chose to share his knowledge and his passion with his audience. We spent many hours not only enjoying his television programs, but learning a lot about wildlife from them.

A modern day Marlin Perkins who died doing what he loved. We should all be so lucky.

I never saw his program and was only aware of his pop-cultural status from the few times that I saw him on other programs. He certainly had an undeniable natural charisma and an overarching enthusiasm for his life's chosen work.

I always feel personally offended when someone with so much to give and to live for is cut down in the prime of life.

The week that Elvis died was quite newsworthy. NYC police had captured the Son of Sam a few days earlier.

The day after Elvis died, I went to Ireland. On the cab ride into Dublin, I told the cabbie that I was amazed at the coverage that the papers were according Elvis because I figured that, like my father, most Irishmen couldn't care less about him.

The cabbie seemed to think that, by that remark, I was disparaging the locals as bumpkins and said that they give big play to all international news. So I asked what the headlines were for the capture of the Son of Sam, figuring that I would stump him.

He replied "KERRY MAN CATCHES SON OF SAM".

I cracked up. For one thing, the NYC policeman who nabbed SOS was about 8 generations removed from County Kerry. For another, it was a terrific double entendre for the "Kerryman" is the butt of many classic Irish jokes.
