How sincere were you and how long did you pray for God to reveal himself to you? It took 5 months of hard prayer with me. But I promise you, he will answer you, but you have to open your ears and mind to hear him.

I did my whole childhood, much longer than 5 months. Still nothing.

You mean a religious discussion and one that doesn't conflict with your beliefs.

If religious people would just understand and admit that their beliefs are solely based on that of faith and not facts, evidence or logic, this type thread wouldn't have to be repeated.

BTW, Mark, if you come back to the thread, I'm very interested in seeing the 24? item list of methods to attempt to date the Earth. It sounds interesting.

I have not read the entire Bible. I have read many parts of it and have a good understanding of it's message.

Since this discussion has been electively and prematurely ended by the opposing side I'll summarize the unanswered questions:
1. Can you show any empirical evidence of anything stated in the Bible?
2. Why is it ok for the Pope to change the Catholic religion? And if you think the Catholic religion is wrong, or any other religion, why is yours right?
3. Are you willing to admit that there is a possibility that any part of the Bible may be wrong?

Evolution is based on scientific theory and is a work in progress which will change as new information is acquired. It has nothing to do with faith-based notions handed down by tradition which support a central Deity who is not detectable using the very same scientific theory & methods employed in all other aspects of science.

Yes it is true that both theories start out with certain assumptions that are yet to be completely proven, but it is only science which daily modifies those starting points as we learn more. Whereas religion starts out at a place which can only be embraced by faith and can never be questioned because by doing so the sojourner commits the unforgivable sin, unbelief.

Science & faith are like oil & water, left in their natural state they will always separate out. It is unfair to demand that science & religion be mixed together because the solution refuses to create a new substance and once the agitation subsides they just resume their natural state once again. Furthermore is is probable that the questions concerning both aspects of the unknown areas will not be answered in our lifetimes.

For those interested in learning more about the age of the Earth debate, this site gives the arguments for both sides with a very high amount of detail. It's a lot of reading but very interesting.
