My duty during the appointed term of office (By Nick Gromicko) was to serve Nick and the growth of NACHI as an Officer of the NACHI Organization.

Not to serve James Bushart (who was not a NACHI Member during my term of Office).

I'll do something unusual and weigh in with my personal opinion only.

I'd say that if there is any truth to the vicious and ugly rumor that while at the same time NACHI was piling on more entrance and membership requirements (http://www.nachi.org/increasedrequirements2007.htm) ASHI changed its come-only-with-cash Candidacy program by renaming it to something more palatable (associate) to trick unwitting consumers.... we can say anything we want about ASHI. ASHI is already belittled throughout our industry for running a known diploma mill that not only allows unqualified inspectors into the industry by simply sending in money (the definition of a diploma mill) but also then goes on to encourage these come-only-with-cash candidates to go out and perform a certain number of actual unqualified inspections for poor, unsuspecting consumers as the only way to achieve full membership. If they now did the unconscionable of all unconscionables and changed the name of their no-entrance-requirement-whatsoever program to "associate", in other words if they made a change not in substance but in name only... I'd say we're free to call them anything we want and would likely struggle to go as low as we'd need to to describe them accurately. If this was really true, nothing we'd say about them from here on out would be a violation of our COE 1.2. Again though, this is only a vicious, ugly rumor I heard about ASHI and don't know if it is true or not. Perhaps ASHI could release an official denial.

I got this from an ASHI member... they are using the word Certified now:

ASHI has introduced the word "Certified" to their membership. ASHI members are no longer called Full Members or Candidates. The names of those membership were changed to:

Certified ASHI Inspector
ASHI Associate

How do you get ASHI certified?... do 250 inspections right or wrong? Confirming that a sample of a home inspector's reports comply with SOP is meaningless in this day and age where all reporting forms and software force inspectors to generate compliant reports anyway.

This ASHI member had been mocking the word certified, along with others,
until he got the news that ASHI now uses it. It's OK now.

Too funny! And they have the weakest certification process of any association in the industry.

It's funny...and sad.

St. Louis has the real estate salesman and the ASHI inspectors sleeping in very close quarters...as one protects the interests of the other.... but it all seems to be backfiring.

Consumers who took their real estate salesman's advice and got the "soft" ASHI inspection report also took their salesman's advice for a mortgage lender. Default rates are jumping through the ceilings while the Missouri Association of Realtors struggles to hold its ground.

While one member of their association in Missouri is arrested for his involvement in child pornography, the MAR lobbies for a bill that would provide immunity for any real estate salesman who decides to conceal the existence of a nearby sex offender in order to sell a house at a premium price.

While some members of their associations solicit bribes (aka "preferred providers") from home inspectors in order to be referred by them to their clients, the MAR lobbies for a law that would put itself in control of a home inspector licensing board.

And...while ASHI members throughout the state join in the fight to keep the MAR from running amuck, members of their leadership secretly (and while lying to their membership to the contrary) work behind the scenes to help the MAR further its agenda with promises of seats on the newly formed licensing board that they are confident that their money will buy them from the state legislature.

There are some ASHI Chapter Presidents who will have some pretty tough questions to answer from their membership when all of this is over.

Well said Erol, at least in our state we are all licenced, by the state and have taken the same exam, except for those who were grandfathered in.

The perception thing is everything perception is reality for the most part. ASHI has been around a lot longer than NAHI or NACHI. So for us it is just a matter of educating the masses.

This gentleman (Mr. Seth) is an avid NACHI member according
>to his website. He is also an ASHI Candidate/Associate. Go

Funny he'd accept the associate/candidate role since he's one of the world's
elite inspectors.

We need harder tests. Bad.

What is that going to accomplish? Perhaps we should stop judging ourselves based on our memberships, exception being if you are one of those lazy ASHI/ NAHI clowns who perpetuate the myth that your memberships define who you are ...

They have no choice, Nick.

With the propoganda that they have been able to buy, with their "soft" reports for the real estate salesmen...without their ASHI membership...they are nothing more than just another home inspector...like you and me.
