A lease without production is as bad as having no lease at all.

this is what Democrats are all about.

Endless investigations instead of actually doing anything useful.

I guess this means they just couldn't find anything else to do.

But Big Oil makes more money importing expensive oil from hostile nations who don't have costly overhead like precautions to prevent serious environmental contamination and high-wage American labor. All Big Oil has to do is buy the oil and mark it up. Easy money!

This whole cat fight that the Rebumpacans picked with the Demorats over leases does a great service for Big Oil, for the Demorats are the perfect scapegoat for their profiteering ...

Nick, it was about the president of the United states lying under oath.
Get over it.

Gas and energy prices have consistently increased since Bush took office 7 1/2 yrs. ago. As soon as he was elected, if you remember, we had the natural gas shortage which was found to be a scam. The price for electricity, water, gas, all energy sources have increased much higher than the cost of living. Why all of the sudden the big rush to drill for domestic oil? Could it be presidential election related? Nah

Nick, don't fall for the "Democrats talking points". They are orchestrating this line.

Read it all

So the bottom line question Congressman, is what I have asserted above about the mechanics of energy exploration (mostly independent's capital at risk) true or false? And, when the Democratics use "no more leases because you have not used the ones you've been granted", they're really attacking essentally small businessmen who have to fight like hell at great risk to get productive wells going, while giving the impression its "Big Oil"?

All leases are not productive, and some are purchased for future use, remember the oil companies have to compete with each other. Plus some areas are much more difficult and costly to get the resources out of. I think the most important thing we can do right now, is to prevent foriegn countries from taking our own resources. I am not just on the side of big oil, there is truth in all of these arguments, there needs to be Balance. The government does things that seem really irrational to us at times, but you have to look at the overall picture to understand what you're looking at. For instance, why do we import from the middle east, while the oil we get out of Prudhoe Bay, goes to Japan? Trade agreements is why. Alaska is much closer to Japan that the Middle East is, therefore it is beneficial to Japan. There is no one solution to the problem, just like there is no single blame. Russia has enough oil and gas to supply Europe, but ask yourself this question, knowing Russia's past dealings with others, would you want to be dependant on them to supply your needs to survive?

OK then.
I'll play.

Gas prices have gone up 100% (more than doubled)since the Democrats took control of the House and Senate.

If a (Demorat) president lying about getting a hummer in the Oval Office is something that harms the American public to the point that we must endlessly investigate it, then I guess thoughly investigating an alledgely malicious leaking of the identity of a CIA operative by the (Rebumpacan) VP is simply rediculous.

Then they may or may not hit a wet or dry hole. I understand that to actually pull off a drill, it costs millions per rig that is actually set up, manned, and run.
So is that how the Big Oil scam works? Instead of getting dirty investing their multi-billion dollar profits drilling the oil themselves, they let the doomed-to-bankruptcy independents have-at-it. Great set up- Big Oil simply buys the expensive, predominately foriegn oil and marks it up for a hefty profit while the independents "prove" the lack of viability of domestic oil by going under due to a lack of funds and/or capabilities.
