Hi John,
I don't use a water level, but I commonly use a lazer to check for differential settlement on structures supported by piers. Gerry,
Do you measure off the plate with your laser, against the foundation? Brian R. Sumpter First Call Inspections Proudly serving most Bay Area Counties www.firstcallinspections.com |

I decided a long time ago that measuring the foundation and offering an opinion was a little too far outside the scope of my inspection protocol and might even be verging on offering a professional engineering opinion which I am not qualified nor licensed to do. If in doubt, I have 2 structural PE's I recommend for further investigation. Both use zip-levels.
