Default Are we certified inspectors?

Nick,

By passing InterNACHI's online test and meeting the entrance requirments, then up to 90 day requirements soon thereafter are we considered to be "certified residential inspectors" by InterNACHI or we simply "certified members of InterNACHI the organization"? Please clarify.

Nick,

I can't do your 90 day plan until I join. What are you talking about? Once I sign your affidavit, pass the online test, do the two online quizzes, then pay $289 one joins. I'm asking one I've done this and then completed the 90 day class requirement does InterNACHI certify one as a "certified Residential Inspector"?

Does NACHI certify the competence of an inspector...or simply that they have fulfilled the requirements for membership?

If you are not certifying my competence...or that I have qualified for membership...what is it you are certifying to the public?

We certify a number of different things, provided we believe they are true. For instance, we certify that you've completed our Wind Mitigation Inspection course and passed its final exam if we have some evidence that you did (such as our system showing that someone with your member username and password completed the course). We certify that you have agreed to abide by our Code of Ethics if we have some evidence that you did (such as receiving your affidavit whereby you agreed to abide by our Code of Ethics).

Now does this mean that we certify that all consumers who hire an InterNACHI member who completed our Wind Mitigation Inspection course will get a correctly-performed wind mitigation inspection? Of course not. No association or agency can do that.

So INACHI does not certify it's members as home inspectors?

Yes, most of them. Not all of them because we have many members who are not inspectors.

Basically Jim how I read it from his last post he's certifying that we met all of INACHI's entrance requirements to join this organization. By meeting INACHI's basic requirements they consider us to be "certified trained residential inspectors". Thus goes the same for any additional inspection we may choose to cover such as Radon, Wind Mit and so on. Why Nick states neither is confusing me. As for standing behind his certification he's simply stating it's impossible because he doesn't see every report before we release it. Again that's how I read your comments Nick. Correct me if I'm wrong.

What I get from Nick is that INachi will certify that:
You are a member
You have successfully completed X approved courses
You have agreed to INachi membership requirements

INachi will not certify that you are abiding by those requirements or standards

Now what does "certified" actually mean in the interNACHI context? IMO: not very much really, it's a mostly marketing device; kind of like "Infared Certified" or "Certified Master Inspector" or "Full Time Logo Inspector".

Are any of these "certifications" actually recognized by any independent standards organization separate from the organization that issues the certification?? Many of the training courses however have been reviewed and are recognized by licensing states as meeting some defined criteria.
Only to an organization that specifically requires or is searching for someone who is a certified member of INachi
