Woodhull, Illinois brags to be the center of the North American Continant. Thus would stand to fit nicely. But it would be a bad idea simply because there is nothing to do outside the actual event. Unless of course you like hog roasts and kegs of beer. I would opt for a place where the family could come along and it could be made into a vacation. With that said I would have it around a large body of fresh water so I can take the boat out and fish, (while the family shops and such), and when I am done I could attend the hog roast and kegger.

As Will would say "Hope this Helps"

"All you really need is love," or so the Beattles tell us, and you can get that and more anywhere the NACHI clan unites. Of course, a glass of wine, or a flagon of ale, and a kiss on the cheek doesn't hurt either.

  3. I have talked with the President of the local (Skokie) chamber of commerce and he indicated that he would happily help. he can also get us discountsfrom other chamber members.
  4. We can get speakers from the local building depts.
  5. Many possible (house walks) to see many different types of construction and different defects.
  6. The Chicago Chapter is large and that would mean that we would have a large group of people, on the ground, to help.
  7. Good shopping, entertainment and attractions in the area.
  8. Good quality, inexpensive hotels.
  9. We could have the convention within 4 miles of ASHI national headquarters. Wouldn't that be something for the papers and media.
  10. We could ensure great media coverage of the event. I know of many newspaper and TV reporters who would just love to do a series on various home related issues (Safety, Building codes, electrical safety, home maintenance, etc.)
That's my recommendation.

And pretty much every other great food you could evel want. All in a 1 mile strip of the hotel.

Plus 10 movie thaters, 2 live show theaters, on of the best shopping malls (and within 2 miles of 6 others) in the world. Also, 13 different shuls and 12 churches. (I just had to get that in. Sorry )

And within one mile of my house and 34 different new construction projects (we call them McMansions) including 8 differrent styles of houses. I know all the contractors and coud set up a great walk-about seminar.

I vote for Nome, Alaska just to show how far NACHI members would go for their association!

Or maybe not...

I was originally pushing hard for New Orleans or anywhere in the state of Louisiana, but then I found out that ASHI may be having their convention in New Orleans.

I pushed New Orleans for some of the following reasons:

1. Public Relations in that we could have chosen a hard hit town or area and perform (for free) mock, warranty, standard, walk-thru, four-point, etc. inspections to offset and assist an already money drained region. In other words take our expertise to the community and show our support.

2. In addition to residential type dwellings a great opportunity existed for commercial type education and evaluation.

3. Back in 1972, Hurricane Agnes devistated the Elmira NY area with high winds, flooding, etc. To this day, inspectors are faced with the after effets, etc.

But all in all, I'm happy to go anywhere that affords me the opportunity to meet and greet all the fine members of this association. Oh yea - and it helps if they have scotch.

with 1500 members, I'd say we're pretty damn NACHI friendly, and NACHIFIED!!

JB, you're about the only fossil here that thinks 70 degrees in February is too hot. Most think it a nice respit from snow!!
