My power bill is $100/month and I stay warm and toasty! I never understood why people settled cold weather climates...my forefathers were of superior intelligence I guess.

I don't turn it on till it get's above 90 and often turn it off at night. (My wife must really love me.) Older home in the shade with high ceilings. I don't think I've ever had a power bill > $150 in my life. I've very stingy.

Full disclosure: I heat with a wood boiler.

Our last house was a 2000 sqft four square heated with electric baseboard and cost around $600 month. Three years later we had sears install a new boiler $6000.00 I thought yeah baby our heat bills will go down. They did alright down to around $500.

Now we have a small 1200 sqft beach cottage and it cost only around $100 - $150 to heat. But we set the heat at 75 in the fall and don't touch it until spring

All you need is a south facing home full of windows, and a ceiling fan. On cold, cloudy days, fire up the fireplace or the heat pump.
