Default 4 types of home inspectors. What type are you? And where will you be after licensing?

Consumers are most benefited by inspectors who possess both strong technical and marketing skills (a technically strong inspector that performs few inspections because he is weak in marketing is of little value to consumers).

What type of home inspector best describes you? http://www.nachi.org/4types.htm

It is a thinly veiled jab at licensing. And to boil down to just four choices, how do you figure there are just four choices?

My take on it is (and this is why I continue to be a member of NACHI) is that in Licensed States belonging to HI Association gives you a leg up on the other equally Licensed (but not equally experienced or technicquely savy) HI's. Then with all the online FREE education offered members here, wow.

Just by reading this message board and the posts of the many different HI's has made me IMO a better HI and a better marketer (weak link).

I'm E

What is a 5th choice?

BTW... I'm sorry you thought it was "thinly veiled"... I thought it was a straight punch in the teeth to licensing which does nothing more than make the visible distinction between good licensed inspectors and bad licensed inspectors fuzzy.

I have a question-----which association will be relevant after there is licensing in all states?

The one strongest in marketing, for that is where the need will be.

The most competent and the best Marketers will still be the same after licensing, and as far as competition or an increase in the number of HI's due to Licensing, you have never connected the dots, it may be true that licensing does not stop the growth in the industry, but neither does not licensing.

Your statements against licensing, that it will make all inspectors equal, goes against what you sell to potential HI's with your NACHI marketing, take a test, become a Certified Home Inspector.

Inspector C is already equal to other unlicensed Inspectors, his problem will be his lack of techinical skills in a system that at least tests for them and sets some basic requirments, many of the "C's" won't be able to meet even the most basic, and right now in unregulated States the market is being over run by "D's" of which even a greater percentage will not be able to meet any minimum requirments.

Now Bushart will jump in and say how terrible it is that I want to see legislation passed just becoause I want to eliminate competition, and in a way he'll be right I want to eliminate the C's and D's, those who, by your definition, are harmful to the consumers, and by my definition that they are harmful to the image of the Home Inspection Industry.

Licensing does not eliminate inspectors that are harmful to consumers. There are plenty of licensed home inspectors that are harmful to consumers. Licensing solves nothing, just my opinion though.

Lewis, NACHI is the industry's largest education provider both online and offline www.nachi.org/inspectionexcellence.htm and the idustry's largest marketer, so I don't see any correlation between NACHI Certification at www.nachi.org/rigorous2006.htm which improves technical skill vs. passing the Kindergarten NHIE and giving the state money, which does nothing for improving technical skill or helping the consumer.

Remember, consumers are most benefited by technically strong inspectors who market well (NACHI members). And consumers are most harmed by technically weak inspectors with state licenses.

Neither does not licensing, licensing is at least a start and can be ammended as needed to make it stronger, getting rid of as much chaff as you can lets you see the bad grain much easier.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, my discussion with Nick is about the statements he uses and where the numbers are that back them up, and the difference to the consumer between a licensed and a certified inspector.

If you are against licensing in Florida, fight to get the Bill killed, that's the same thing I have said to Inspectors in Washington, everyone, except to certain members of this board, has the right to fight for or against any legislation, me I can live with licensing or without it, I tend to support the Bill in Washington because it has no impact on me, if this one is defeated, then no one knows what will be proposed neaxt year, A Bird in Hand.......
