According to the poor licensing advocates of Pennsylvania...they have seven whole years of having a law that no one pays attention to.

As the president of the BBB put it, "He said the home inspection law has been in effect since Dec 20, 2001, "with limited enforcement action being taken.""

By "limited", he means "none".

Evil (or illegality) flourishes when good men do nothing.

Noticed how you, kinda, changed the subject there, Jim.

very telling.

This is where we agree. Weak law produce weak results.
Stronger laws and proper enforcement produce better results.

Nope.

My position is what it has always been.

In Missouri, we have a hero in Jesse James....a guy that some folks called an "outlaw", but to us....a fellow who simply refused to surrender when General Lee, did.

I support the Boston Tea Party....the Declaration of Independence....and all other folks who stand up for what they believe.

I believe that home inspection laws pushed by special interests are wrong. I cheer for those who find ways around them. I will continue to do so....even if it means that you and Will don't like me.

I know.

That is how your law passed.

Now, good men are doing something....and I cheer them for it (and will continue to withhold their names from you).

Today......our CBS affilliate aired a piece on the poor homebuyers who got stuck when their unlicensed builders went bankrupt and now cannot honor the warranties on their poorly built and crumbling new homes.

Unlicensed builders using unlicensed contractors in a state with no building code enforcement. Consumers are hurt.

But the Missouri Builders Assoc and Missouri Assoc of Realtors lobby against every bill introduced to help the consumer in this regard. They did manage to pass a bill that keeps consumers from taking builders to court under certain conditions, however.

This fall, however, we will hear of the travesty being inflicted on the used house salesmen who are losing their commissions whenever an unlicensed inspector kills their deal.

Do you really wonder why consumers...and many inspectors such as myself....are indifferent to HI laws?

I still like you James. That has nothing to do with it.

I understand the "right of the people" to resist "bad law".
Of coarse it is convenient to choose which laws we don't like.

I guess we should call you Jesse James..., as you carry
on a war that is at odds with the InterNACHI CoE.

But it kinda takes away from your moral high ground to
say much to anyone... IMHO.

Those who don't want responsibility for what the law brings upon them
will shout the loudest to fight it. Read your own post.

Renegade (Jesse James) inspectors don't want responsibility either.

I seek no moral high ground or approval from folks like you and Will, who have an unusual sense of intimacy with your respective state's HI licensing laws.

I stand with the consumer who needs a home inspection that is free from the influence of the special interests wanting to protect their special interests through the legislative control of home inspectors.

I will fight with whatever weapon I find and will support anyone who struggles against such interferences with their business.

Licensing is a joke. Consumers don't care. Rarely, if ever, enforced.
Why would there even be a reason for this? Except to get a soft report. I can not see an agent and an inspector both risking their lic. for one deal to go through.

I could see why you'd cross the bridge though, they pay better over here than in Mo.

Brian,

Not only do is disrespect...but am committed to oppose...the opinions of those who wish to advance their own special interests by carpetbagging and otherwise pushing for legislation that would put the home inspector under their control or dependent upon their wares to stay in business.

I support those who stand against them and fight them....from within and from without.

Seven years after passage....the majority of the state ignores the law in PA. It should be repealed. So should the silly and meaningless laws that John McKenna refers to.

This won't happen by itself. Committed people need to bring light to the harm that these laws present to the consumers they pretend to protect.

Actually, they don't.

I only cross the bridge for rennovation projects and commercial inspections...but the residential I have turned down were never over $250. That's pathetic...but it is the price they all go for over there.

I'm not lying. Talk to your Metro-East counterparts. It's sad over there. One offer of $250, I was told, was higher "to include the extra gas".

Perhaps they are just offering us the ones you guys turn down.
