I received the same "I am going to sue you letter". Their contention is that my website stated I was certified by the examination board of professional home inspectors as having passed the NHIE and that the NHIE Does not certify anyone!
Talk about duplicity and speaking out of both sides of their mouth! "This scoresheet certifies that you have pass the National Home Inspection Examination" is very clear and to the point! I think that we should consider filing a class action lawsuit against these people! With my website, I just had their logo with a link to their site, It didn't say certify anything. Like my web master said, who lives in the same area they're located, it was their loss because it helped promote their site. Wait until you all hear what I heard about another "certifying" organization today...
This one deals with radon training and testing. Seems that feel that you cant call yourself a RMT or RMS without joining their group. Funny, because they don not OWN those titles, and many states "certify" individuals once that person shows proof of having taken an approved training course and passing the exam from this same org. No mention of joining it, though. I thought that once you take their training and pass their competency exam, you are what they asked you to pay to trained and tested in. As money gets tighter in the HI world, this sort of stuff will crop up. |

The NHIE was originally taken from the old ASHI tests and expanded upon.
At one time ASHI's test was entrusted to past ASHI officer(s) to take and show to certain state agencies that were moving toward state licensure to try and sway these states toward using these tests - OR so those of us on ASHI's national BOD were told at that time. In the past 5 years I've taught 5-6 half day to full day training sessions for people needing to take either the NHIE, the NAHI CRI or various state licensing exams (like in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Illinois, etc). Todate I've had 4 people tell me that after the cram session they failed the applicable test - the 1st time - never the 2nd time. I use 2 things and 2 things ONLY to teach the class. They are "Code Check" and a 350 question practice test I got off a secret web site several years ago. Bottom line is this - I can't tell you what will be on the Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois state licensing tests - BUT - I can tell you I've never seen ANY home inspection test ANYWHERE that didn't ask certain questions. Such as: How high off the ground do electrical wires have to be when entering the house? What size copper wire goes with a 30 amp fuse? How much can I notch out of a 2x10? Etc, Etc, Etc. 60% of the questions on ANYBODY's test are gonna be on EVERYBODY's test. All you have to worry about is the other 40%. If you know the Code Check backward and forward - you're halfway home. Dan Bowers |
