That is an attractive myth.

Your board will have to comply with overriding statutes. Statutes are written by legislators. Legislators are heavily influenced by lobbyists. IAR will kick the crap out of any pitiful lobbying effort you can muster. It just becomes a matter of time before the realtors control the agenda.

Myths die very hard in HI circles.

What's good for us HI's is ASHI's survival! If that involves being enslaved to realtors- so be it! If it involves the rotating door of Canadates, nope, Associates from the 3-Day HI Academies funding it- no problem! Remember, ASHI is the source of all good in this industry. Nothing, I repeat nothing, is more sacred in our industry than the almighty ASHI! ASHI! ASHI!

tallen is right. The NAR has clout, we don't because we argue all the time. And don't look now, folks, but the day is coming when CAPITOL will attempt to control the industry and enslave us all.

I'm a history guy. In 16th century Poland, any member of the Polish parliament could veto legislation. And it went further than that. It was called the "liberum veto", in which not only the legislation that a particular member didn't like was vetoed, but ALL legislation passed that session was automatically vetoed, and the session declared in adjournment. So they all go home without any meaningful legislation passed. For 4 years, the Poles had knowledge that the Prussians and Russians planned to overrun them. For 4 years, legislation was passed appropriating money to strengthen the military. For 4 years, somebody exercised their liberum veto. In the fifth year, Poland ceased to exist as an independent political entity for the next couple of hundred years.

My point? It only takes a few a**h***s to screw it up for everybody.
