State Legislation - Kentucky

Latest Update on SB 66
Bill #: SB66

Year: 2006

Bill Summary:
SB 66revises provisions of the Kentucky Board of Home Inspectors.
The bill requires one member of the Board be a member of the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors (NACHI) and decreases the “at large” home inspector representative from two to one. NACHI will also have two members on the board selection committee.
Current lawalready requires one member of the Board be from each of the following organizations: American Society of Home Inspectors, Kentucky Real Estate Inspectors Association and National Association of Home Inspectors. These organizations also have two members of the board selection committee. {NO MENTION OF NACHI}
SB 66 was introduced in the Senate on January 9 by Senator Buford.
On January 11, SB 66 was referred to the Committee of Licensing, Occupations and Administrative Regulations.
On January 31, an amended SB 66 was read a first time in the Senate. The amended bill keeps the provision that a selection committee must submit 15 names to the Governor for him/her to choose the five Board members from. The amendment also keeps the language from the original SB 66 which increased membership of the selection committee from six to eight members by adding two members from the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors.
However, the amended SB 66 deletes current law requiring Board appointments to be members of the American Society of Home Inspectors, Kentucky Real Estate Inspectors Association, National Association of Home Inspectors and two at large licensed home inspectors.

This means the selection committee does not have to ensure equal representation on the Board.

On February 1, SB 66 had its second reading in the Senate and was referred to the Senate Committee on Rules.

SB 66 has been scheduled for a vote in the Senate on Wednesday, February 8.

Hopefully all Kentucky Inspectors will email their respective Representatives in support of this bill. If Kentucky Inspectors need contact information, please feel free to contact me.

I have another trip planned for later this month or early March to meet and greet the House members, much the same way NACHI did with the Kentucky Senate.

As a point of interest:

NACHI members in Kentucky - 87
ASHI members in Kentucky - about 20
NAHI members in Kentucky - about 20
KREIA members in Kentucky (made up of Independents and National Association members) - about 80.

Go here to find your Kentucky Representative. Tell them what you think. You can find them by name, county, or district. A contact form is provided for most though some provide an e-mail address.
