With that said,
I hope to work with Jay and any others to protect the interests of our profession while the details of this poor legislation are formulated.

It is correct to state that SunCoast ASHI was also firmly opposed to the Home Inspector Licensing Bill. Unfortunately this Governor was bound & determined to sign anything the legislature sent to him, truly a sad day for our profession

It has been my personal observation that, in those cases where legislation has received ASHI support, it has not been the rank-in-file ASHI members supporting it.

In fact, in the St. Louis ASHI Chapter, the membership opposed the licensing efforts of the legislature while its president secretly and covertly worked behind the scenes to help draft it.

Since the bill simply created a licensing board that would make all of the rules, it was unusual that the one and only rule governing home inspectors in the entire bill was the standard ITA language for a 60 hour mandatory home inspection course. It is reasonable to conclude that the ASHI presidents (at the objection of their membership) included this with the hope of financial reward should the measure pass.

Hopefully, ASHI members in such instances will rise and retake control over their chapters.

When it was not written the way you wanted it. If it had anti-NACHI you would have been all over it. The old saying be careful what you wish for. It bit ASHI in the rear.

The cure to the fee depression caused by licensing, is marketing.

It warms my heart to hear about ASHI's ethics being so high. But so anyone that does not belong to ASHI doesn't feel like their associations ethics are bad, please understand that both NAHI & NACHI also have good ethics.

Anybody that doesn't know this hasn't been privy to internal sessions of all 3 groups or is biased. In all my years of inspecting, I've seen gladiators in all 3 and slime balls in all 3 - I've seen associations say one thing and do another.

It really gets down to the guys/gals in the trenches that makes for good or bad. I'm gonna do whats right for me and my business and my family. If that is in line with our ethics great - if not, its my business not the associations.

They don't pay my taxes, pay my insurance, feed my family, argue with surly sellers or agents, or line up my jobs - thats what I do. Therefore its like this;

..... is a club I belong to, a nice club, but just one of many clubs I belong to. If their rules interfer with my income or earning ability, they're just one less club I need to pay dues to.

Always has been - always will be!

Mr. Porter,
You are incorrect in your assumption. I have always been opposed to legislation and FL- ASHI has also always been opposed to legislation. If the proposed legislation was anti- NACHI- I would have been opposed to it. FYI- I started the northeast Florida chapter of NACHI along with the current chapter president- Steve Kallao. Your statement above is factually incorrect.

Not that I anyone need to (Steve Taylor's word is as good as gold) but I will vouch for the fact that Steve like most of us has been anti-licensing and pro-NACHI, besides that he is a bottomless fountain of knowledge in regards to new construction inspecting who has been willing to share his knowledge, not even Peck or Hooper could fill Steve's shoes in regards to new construction inspection, Steve could write the book.
