By the way,
if an inspector is getting paid $3000 week to do this type of inspection at "$50 a pop" he would have to do 10 to 12 a day. Anyone who does the math will see that this does not add up. First you have to contact 10 to 12 clients, book the inspections, drive out to the inspection sites, conduct the inspections, write up the reports, and then go to the next inspection site. While you are actually "out in the field" how are you going to contact and book your next 10 to 12 inspections for the next day? You would either have to work 18 to 24 hour days to accomplish this or hire someone to do the bookings for you. There goes any profit that you might make! I am not buying into this scenario! Those that do buy into this scenario and actually conduct the inspections will soon have their "bubbles burst"! I am happy to say that there are some companies that are paying more than $50. One company in region 3 is paying $90 per inspection. The mold company that was mentioned before is paying $75 to $85.

I was a part of the initial phase and doing 8 a day is possible with someone doing all of the scheduling of the appointments and setting up my next days paperwork. I started at 7:30 and my last inspection was at 5:00. Then there was still the uploading of reports and all other normal business related activities to do. So if you put in roughly 9 ˝ hours per day doing the actual physical inspection, how many additional hours did it take you to upload the reports? I’ll bet that added quite a few hours to your day! I was at least making 85.00 to do them and my wife took care of scheduling and the next days paperwork. That is too much time invested for 400.00. So you take eight inspections and divided by 2 (because of you and your wife) and that makes it $200 per day divided by however many hours you work. Let’s say a 9.5 hours plus another 5 hours for the reports. That is 14.5 hours divided into $200 equals $13.79 per hour now tax that at 32% and you get a $4.41 deduction for taxes. That leaves you with $9.38 per hour “profit” for your labor! He must want his people to work 7 days a week. NO THANKS. -- After you “clear” a grand total of $9.38 per hour for your expertise then you have to remember to deduct your operating expenses. Example; liability insurance, car insurance, operating expenses, gasoline, etc. etc. Yep, that makes me want a rush right out and conduct inspections for $50 a pop! As the president of CMI has pointed out in his post, folks, as long as there are inspectors desperate enough to accept his offer, you should not begrudge them for accepting it or him for offering it.
This is the same fellow claiming his commitment to raising the bar for home inspection fees, nationally. He can talk the talk...but.... James H. Carl,
As long as your a licensed building contractor, engineer, architect or a building inspector you can do wind mitigation inspections. They may not be through the state program, but their is a large market for them. Many home owners with homes over $500,000 need them and there are still areas that do not offer the state program yet. We have saved homeowners up $700 a year on the wind premium of their insurace. The average savings has been around $300. They will save that every year though. As far as I know you can sign off on the forms if you have your B1 or any of the other above licenses. You have to find your own work, that can be done though. |

We all need to work, well most of us do but do we need to make all of our money off of people who are desperate. If most of the companies pay between 75.00 and 90.00 it shows that they can make money in that range and not take advantage of the people in their own industry.
