Apparently there are some non-HI groups identified as stakeholders...does anyone know who these groups are? I would surely assume Realtors are involved.

Don't know. That's why I'm asking. I've heard that Realtors and builders are in the soup and there may be others. I had an inspection up your way yesterday Steve...I hate that drive.

Register to be be on the stakeholder email list

http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr...subscribe.html

here is the last email I got:

On June 27, 2007, Governor Charlie Crist signed Senate Bill 2234 relating to home inspections and mold-related services into law effective July 1, 2010. In so doing, the Governor clearly acknowledged that additional consumer protection is warranted in the fields of home inspection, mold assessment, and mold remediation. As the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) moves forward to implement this new law, we would like to work closely with various stakeholders to facilitate a discussion that ensures that we license efficiently and regulate fairly. Simply stated, we are looking for your input as we move forward. Since you have either expressed interest in being included in the discussions or have already volunteered input, I wanted to notify you of the planned schedule of upcoming stakeholder meetings.

We have scheduled a meeting in four different cities across the state – Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Orlando, and Ft. Lauderdale for your convenience. Both home inspection and mold related services meetings will be held the same day. The home inspection meetings will be held from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM and the mold related services meetings will be held from 1:30 – 4:30 PM. We will also provide a call-in number for those who wish to listen to the meetings via telephone. Since the law is to take effect July 1st, 2010, we expect a large number of stakeholders to attend these meetings. Therefore, those stakeholders who call in will only be able to listen. Each meeting will focus on the requirements of the Florida Statutes as the starting point for discussions. We will discuss grandfathering provisions, requirements for criminal history background checks and examinations. In the event there is a hurricane watch or warning issued for any part of the state, please check the department’s web page (http://www.myflorida.com/dbpr) to determine whether or not a particular meeting is still being held as scheduled.

Finally, the department has established websites for both home inspections and mold related-services:
Home inspections – http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/pro/homein/index.html
Mold-related services – http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/pro/mold/index.html

Please check these websites for additional information. I recommend that you also review the appropriate Florida Statutes (Part XV, Ch. 468, F.S. – Home Inspectors and Part XVI, Ch. 468, F.S. – Mold-related services) prior to the meetings so that you can be better prepared.

The schedule for the stakeholder meetings:

Tallahassee – Tuesday, Sept. 29th

301 Senate Office Building

404 S. Monroe St.
Tallahassee, FL 32399

Jacksonville – Thursday, Oct. 1st

Florida State College at Jacksonville, Kent Campus

3939 Roosevelt Blvd.
Jacksonville, FL 32205

Orlando – Tuesday, Oct. 13th

University of Florida, (UF/IFAS) Orange County Extension Education Center

6021 South Conway Road
Orlando, FL 32812-3604

Ft. Lauderdale – Wednesday, Oct. 14th

Margate Commission Chambers

Margate City Hall Complex

5790 Margate Boulevard

Margate, FL 33063

All Home Inspection Stakeholders’ Meetings – 9:00AM – 12:00 PM

All Mold Related Stakeholders’ Meetings – 1:30PM – 4:30 PM

Call in telephone number if you cannot attend and wish to listen to the meeting is 1-888-808-6959

The conference code is 9226020.

I promote both organizations as I feel both promote education of their members as the most important aspect of their existance. It would be nice if the organizations (all of them) could put the interests of their constitutancy above the petty squabbling but I haven't seen evidence of that yet. Others who will go unamed have voiced similar concerns to me. Will we acheive the common goals without a unified voice? Will my voice carry above the dissention and argument to make a lasting impression on the powers to be? I sincerely doubt it. But it would be nice if my thoughts made an impression on one person who could cast aside the emotional baggage of former battles and enter into new negotitations with a renewed spirit of compromise enableing a single voice to be presented to the DBPR that would be listened to.

I have faith that we will do just that. I have faith that we will see the benefit of working together for the common good of the profession. I have faith that the majority will feel as we do and see the benefit of working together. I will be at the Orlando meeting representing Greg Bell and Bell Inspection Service.

I respect that and may attend representing Inspectright Inc. too. I am a man of little faith, but my glass is always half full due to an optomistic outlook so for now I will share your faith if that is OK.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, FABI got what they wanted... A licensing bill how could they be upset. Once licensing is a reality the squabbling between Florida associations should come to an end, I too have many friends in both ASHI & FABI, but will be representing Square-One Inspection Service at this meeting.

And it looks like licensing will cause ASHI members to have to go to school for 120 hours... and rightfully so. ASHI's highest level of membership requires merely passing of the beginners NHIE exam, the same beginners exam some states use to license newbies fresh out of school. And even worse, ASHI has no entrance requirements at all. Anyone can join ASHI online in 30 seconds with nothing more than a valid credit card.

Joe, is FABI a diploma mill like ASHI or does FABI have entrance requirements? I'm curious as to why FABI supported licensing.

Nick,
I have always tried to stay out of your fight with other associations as I have been a member of multiple associations for years. However, I can no longer resist swinging at your pitch in the dirt. I received your letter with the "talking points" for members that go to the upcoming meetings and believe that your being there and pushing "your" agenda will reflect negatively on you as well as us- the members of NACHI. I do not have a high regard for state officials as do most people. However, even the densest of "state officials" should be able to see through your talking points and recognize your agenda. They should also be able to see that you do not represent your members- but rather your agenda for personal gain. (for those of you who don't get it- selling more memberships and on line education) You have done much to improve and raise the standards for our industry. Now is the time for you stand stand up and act like the industry leader that you are and truely represent us - the little guys out there doing the work. I would ask that you put your personal agenda aside for this fight and represent ALL inspectors in the industry. By doing that, your $ as well as your credibity across the entire industry will come back to you.

Nick is learning.....albeit, slowly.....that what matters most to us at the state level is victory.

Compromise can, at times, be as deadly or deadlier than the points that we oppose.

Victory takes a collective effort that transcends the boundaries of association membership. Victory requires the cooperation and support of inspectors belonging to no associations at all as well as those of us who choose to belong.

At the state level...it is no longer a NACHI or ASHI thing. It's a professional issue and no one.....at all......is considered to be credible who approaches it in any other way.

Congressmen and senators want to hear from constituents who are consumers and professionals. There is no room on their agenda for NACHI v. ASHI and if you introduce it, you go to the back of the line. Been there....done that.

Winning is all that matters.
