Steve, it is not "my" agenda. I'm not a Florida home inspector.

However many of my members have to compete against diploma mill inspectors who joined Shazam! ASHI online yesterday, in 28 seconds, with nothing more than a valid credit card: https://www.homeinspector.org/join/a...n/default.aspx

What would you have me do? I'm open to suggestions.

Thank you. That was good of you to say. And I always do try my best to stand up for our industry, but I don't consider no-entrance-requirement diploma mills to be part of the inspection industry, and I certainly have no intention of "leading" them anywhere except back to McDonalds, where they belong.

In the state battles, we have a saying: "My enemy's enemy is my friend."

ASHI members who agree with you can be added to your number and offending them with competitive rhetoric simply encourages them to work against your efforts.

The law has already been enacted. I have no beef with Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. The Department, like us, are in the same boat now in that we are both trying to make the law work.

Has having the law repealed ever come up? Bad laws that cannot be implemented usually fall into that category?

There is a easy solution to correct the diploma mill theory. Only allow full members of any org to be grandfathered. Of course NACHI would need to raise the requirements for full membership so that all associations have similar requirements. IMHO

There was talk of that taking place sometime ago. It appears that the state is ready to move forward with licensing even if they have to figure it out on the fly.

We've asked ASHI to do this for many years. They refuse to be anything other than a diploma mill. Their full membership still remains only 3 meaningless requirements long:

1. Submit 5 inspection reports showing they comply with SOP. Seeing that all forms and reporting software today complies with SOP right out of the box, I don't know how one could possibly come up short on this non-requirement requirement. It is a meaningless requirement.

2. Pass an ethics exam. Seeing that unethical inspectors give the correct ethical answers when being tested... this requirement is also totally meaningless.

3. Pass the beginners NHIE, the same beginners exam used by many states to license newbies fresh out of school. Not completely meaningless but hardly an appropriate requirement for "full, certified" membership level.

That's it folks. That's all you need to do to reach ASHI's highest membership level. Their entry membership level is even worse. You need nothing at all, just pay. I'm not making this up folks. I wish I were.

Anyway, we compared the membership requirements of all the major inspection associations and actually printed off all the courses, quizzes and exams required by each, then photographed the stacks of paper. For your viewing pleasure: http://www.nachi.org/requirementcomparison.htm

4. Have completed 250 inspections.

Then you are a full member.

Full member of NACHI is only required to complete 100 inspections. (please correct the number if it has been changed)

You forgot #4 to be an ASHI Certified Member you need...

4. Submit proof of 250 fee paid full home inspections

In this market it could take a few years to achieve that.

I think it is something more than a diploma mill when you add in #4 for the highest level of membership they have.

Nick,
You win! You have successfully razzle dazzled and shifted the discussion back to your agenda by bashing other organizations rather than focusing on the issue at hand- helping ALL inspectors in Florida with this bad legislation.

Again, I have no duty to "ALL inspectors." I only have a duty to InterNACHI members.

Besides, a pizza delivery boy who joined ASHI online in 28 seconds yesterday is not an inspector IMHO.

Joe, ASHI encouraging its newbies to cut our throats, drop prices, and go out and perform 250 unqualified inspections for unsuspecting consumers as the only way to achieve full membership is something to be ashamed of!!!

The only way it could be remotely reasonable to require newbies to harm unsuspecting consumers would be if you combined that requirement with educational requirements like InterNACHI does www.nachi.org/membership.htm

Otherwise, ASHI is essentially unleashing uneducated mass murderers out into the public and wrecking our markets at the same time.
