I think all home inspectors in business, when the bill was signed should be grandfathered, 250 fee inspections would be a good as well.

Nick,
You continue to validate my point in post #43 with your last post. My post from above: Nick, I have always tried to stay out of your fight with other associations as I have been a member of multiple associations for years. However, I can no longer resist swinging at your pitch in the dirt. I received your letter with the "talking points" for members that go to the upcoming meetings and believe that your being there and pushing "your" agenda will reflect negatively on you as well as us- the members of NACHI. I do not have a high regard for state officials as do most people. However, even the densest of "state officials" should be able to see through your talking points and recognize your agenda. They should also be able to see that you do not represent your members- but rather your agenda for personal gain. (for those of you who don't get it- selling more memberships and on line education) You have done much to improve and raise the standards for our industry. Now is the time for you stand stand up and act like the industry leader that you are and truely represent us - the little guys out there doing the work. I would ask that you put your personal agenda aside for this fight and represent ALL inspectors in the industry. By doing that, your $ as well as your credibity across the entire industry will come back to you. Steve Taylor Taylor Inspection Services, Inc. Atlantic Beach, Florida 904-206-0370 www.taylorinspectionservices.com NACHI member ASHI member ICC Certified Inspector BLAH, BLAH, BLAH Your post from above: Joe, ASHI encouraging its newbies to cut our throats, drop prices, and go out and perform 250 unqualified inspections for unsuspecting consumers as the only way to achieve full membership is something to be ashamed of!!! The only way it could be remotely reasonable to require newbies to harm unsuspecting consumers would be if you combined that requirement with educational requirements like InterNACHI does www.nachi.org/membership.htm Otherwise, ASHI is essentially unleashing uneducated mass murderers out into the public and wrecking our markets at the same time. |

You continue to validate that you don't "get it" with your last post. Once again you repeat some silliness about "selling online education" when everyone here knows that all our many educational requirements are 100% free: www.nachi.org/membership.htm The only thing I can imagine you are referring to are perhaps NACHI.TV's online video courses, but most of them are free too... and the ones that aren't are inexpensive and OPTIONAL. Again, all InterNACHI's online educational requirements are 100% free: www.nachi.org/membership.htm Nick Gromicko, Certified Master Inspector Find a Home Inspector "Just as iron sharpens iron, one man sharpens another." Do you really think your argument would sway the DBPR in granting NACHI members any status that wouldn't automatically be given equally to all Florida home inspectors? You and I both understand that the licensing bar will be set at the lowest common dominator even if no one can agree on exactly what that is. As it stands right now there is no SOP connected with this bill and no provision to limit liabilities for inspectors, if you concentrated on those two issues which are well within your expertise it would aid both NACHI members and the overall profession and might set a precedent for other states. Nick,
You know that I "get it" , just as I know that you "get it". For the anyone else that has been taken in by your razzle dazzle and doesn't "get it"- I have no problem with you making money on dues or education or anything else for that matter. As long as NACHI continues to provide value for its dues and education,(which I believe it does), you will do fine. The problem I have is with you pushing your association bias into important licensing issues that will affect all inspectors in my state. If you are successful with your efforts, you will stand to gain financially. Hopefully, your efforts will be transparent to all. Steve Taylor Taylor Inspection Services, Inc. I've taken the the NACHI exam several times and shortly thereafter have taken the NHIE and there are simply no significant differences in technical content. If the NHIE is considered a "beginners exam", than the NACHI exam is no different and believe me...that's far from an unqualified statement. I personally believe that the NACHI exam is slightly better written but using it as a licensing exam exposes Florida inspection business owners to a flood of folks entering the business that don't belong. Using the NACHI exam, an inspector can bring their friend "Billy Bob", the troglodyte spot welder into their home, and take the exam for them. Regardless of the NHIE's percieved flaws, there's a level of protection afforded by it since the person taking it...is verified to be the person taking it by showing up and providing 2 forms of ID. If NACHI inspectors are as superior as what is touted, passing the NHIE will be an elementary exercise that shouldn't be feared. The idea that NACHI inspectors might flock to ASHI since they've passed this exam is likely the real motivation behind this "talking point" and at face value is ridiculous. Quite frankly, I'm a bit fed up with the childish fueding between organizations. I have pretty thick skin and am not easily offended but this fueding makes us all look like a bunch of toothless hillbillies in the eyes of the public and the legislators. How on earth apparently intelligent people cannot figure this out is mind-numbing to those of us that have. I support NACHI and most all of their efforts but there are some positions I simply wont support. Trade associations (every last one of them) have this annoying habit of using the success of their best and brightest, as a sales pitch to sell the organization. Fine...marketing at its best...I can live with it. Where this tactic goes south for me is when our associations in an effort to monopolize the business, resort to negative ad campaigning against other associations and worse yet, lure the membership into the same "schoolyard" behavior. I have always supported both ASHI and NACHI. BUT, these assn's better figure out quickly where their paycheck comes from. No trade assn. member should support this behavior on their own dime.
