Senate Bill 2234 has passed the Florida Legislature. It will soon be on the desk of the Governor this week. It is vital as a Florida Home Inspector and/or Mold Inspector that you become familiar with the proposed law. No Standards of Practice or Code of Ethics
No Grandfathering Clause - All Inspectors MUST Comply by July 2010
120 Hrs of State Approved Education, Pass State Approved Exam, Pay $200+ per year for license, General Liability and E&O Provision
No Statute of Limitations for liability. Plead No Contest in Court, License May Be Jeopardized

I have to agree, this year FABI pissed away 60% of their members dues on the promotion of licensing in conjunction with NAHI and absolutely no one knows who they are.

Every inspector (not just NACHI members) should oppose this legislation. However, having said that.... if it should become enacted, I have a plan.

The day after licensing becomes law, technical competence no longer means anything.... it becomes an all out MARKETING RACE!

FABI is not a marketing organization and NAHI is worse (NAHI actually un-sells its members). ASHI (stronger at marketing) is only strong at marketing ASHI, not so strong at marketing its members. It is ironic that the associations that most pushed for creating this marketing race are the ones who have no tools to compete in it. Which is why FABI and NAHI members are about to take a beatin'. FABI, being a state association has a tougher problem than NAHI in that 100% of their membership is affected, whereas FL is only one state for NAHI and not really a big state for them. Like I said... kiss FABI goodnight. They are history.

I should explain what I mean by a marketing org with this example: Recently (this past year), what we've spent on the MoveInCertified, FetchReport project alone (I think IT told me they wrote 59,000 lines of code for FetchReport and the online electronic agreement thingie) probably exceeds in dollars, FABI's and NAHI's entire combined gross income.

After the inspection.....

HI: Hey I can fix that fascia for $500. The State allows me to do it as long as I do it after the closing.

Buyer: Great. I am glad you put estimated cost $1000 to fix it in the inspection report. The seller never saw it coming.

Jay, your post #53 certainly describes the problem as well as demonstrates how it is a problem for ALL inspectors (regardless of association affiliation).

I just happen to believe I have the solution. This probably sounds quite cocky to those who don't know me personally. Nevertheless... it is true. NACHI members should expect no less from me. I won't fail you.

NAHI is the most unethical trade association of any trade association (not just home inspectors) in world history. No doubt about it. But there are cheaters in every profession. We simply have to work harder to defeat their sleaze.
