The strongest argument against legislation...and how even those who pushed for a bill came to regret it...can be seen today in New York.

The very idea that the bill can (and wil) be modified from the document that the governor actually signs....and the many influences it will be affected by...is reason enough to fight it to the very end.

I can understand the thought process behind forming a group that can try to influence the law....but while it is still a bill --- keep fighting.

How will it kill mold testing?

I got my copy of the email from Krystal.

Thanks again Nick.

Richard:

The email I wrote does not have an opinion. We have let the FL membership know what to expect. It is a personal business decision to contact the Gov to be for or against the bill.

Jay -
I just read through the text of the bill. It appears this will kill the "4-point" inspection market. Granted, it does not take effect until 2010, but every home inspection will have required areas, and require a written report. Don't you think this will price us out of the 4-point inspections?

Andrew,
How do you see the 4 point going away. This is not a true home inspection and is not always generated by a sale. This is for the insurance companies info.

My understanding is that if you've been in the mold business for 3 years you are covered. Am I wrong? Join www.IAC2.org for free so that you have proof that you are in the business now.

I e-mailed the Governor today. Very disappointed that no grandfather clause was added.
The entire bill needs to be reworked.
How's going to pay my bills? And what about the business that goes to other inspectors in my area while I'm playing schoolboy?
All it's doing is making home inspector schools BIG $$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Never mind - I read too much into it, too quickly. I thought it defined an inspection, but it doesn't really, except to say " one or more components..." But you would still be required to make a written report which is required to contain those inspected components, and those not inspected, and why not. It doesn't differentiate if it's for a home sale or not -

Richard:

As a home inspector, as long as the visible mold is less than 10 sq ft at the time of inspection you will not need to be licensed.

Here the reality. Mold Companies will market the crap out of this provision. Do you want someone who is licensed or not Mr. Consumer.

Current E&O Mold policies are in excess of $7500 a year. Once enacted, the insurance companies will have an oligopoly because everyone will need it. The cost for the premiums could double or triple.

I just sat down and read every tread that has been posted on this subject. I do have concerns about this bill. I am going to contact my state rep. here in the keys, and see what's up. I am willing to do what I can to help stop this. I believe it is a very poorly written bill. I read the bill about a month ago. I am just starting my HI business and I also work for the City of Key West. From what I know about the DBPR and the state I Think that the state test will be given by the ICC. they are the only organization that is approved for the building inspectors down here, and they have a Property Management and Housing Inspector certification. We need to get all up in this bill and try to stop it or help change it.
