I agree, and one other thing is :
Why a 2 year degree to collect mold samples? I can see this as a requirement for evaluation and mitagation - but Sampling?

Florida Community Colleges have been calling NACHI this morning looking for information on developing curriculums. They are asking us to find them teachers.

That is great news Nick. I agree that the community college is the way to go.

Will you be forwarding them to someone in Florida?

It just means that home inspection schools will find it tough to compete. Community Colleges have huge competitve advantages (everyone knows where their local CC is, government grants, financing, synergy, college credit, etc).

Not to mention State approval on the curriculum. Then one can hardly be turned down for a license because the school doesn't pass muster. Another avenue that is extremely plentiful in Florida are the tech schools (used to be called VoTech schools but they have gotten away from that name). The facilities are usually outstanding with hands on labs and like the one I went to we did "live work" almost every day.

Just a note:
Mold specific E&O has been available thru:

ESA Environmental Solutions Assoc. #2
(great training, no experience requirements)

EAA, Environmental Assessment Assoc. #3
(old but good org. great updates on environmental issues)

IAQA, Indoor Air Quality Assoc. #1
(board approved certifications, AmIAQC)

A question I have had for a long time.
Does anyone know of a Florida based certified Industrial Hygienist that uses Pro Lab services?
Home Inspectors that use Pro Lab ask me and I just don't know
of any.
Have a nice day,

Doug, very few. They are still upset that the NACHI/IAC2/ESA/PRO-LAB Alliance ate their lunch: http://www.nachi.org/iac2alliance.htm These people who go out and get a fancy degree and then just expect their phone to start ringing without doing any marketing, drive me nuts.

Prudent Florida inspectors will watch what is happening in New York.

Like (possibly) Florida, their governor signed a bill that created an open ended HI law where "the details" would be filled in later. Quietly and confidently, they prepared themselves for licensing....then all hell broke loose.

Meanwhile...just one New York HI school alone has graduated over 425 brand new licensed home inspectors in the last four months, all hungry for their first inspection at any price....(the other schools are not releasing figures)...

....and the beat goes on....

I contacted the govern's office by e-mail yesterday and I also contacted my state rep. this morning. I hope all of the other florida HI's have done the same.
