Anyone care to join me in my alerting Governor Crist to my dis satisfaction of the current proposed bill? This is the e-mail address the response came from.

Thomas.Hobbs@LASPBS.STATE.FL.US

Dear Mr. Magrone:

Thank you for writing to Governor Charlie Crist expressing your views on House Bill 2234 relating to home inspectioncurrently being considered by the Florida Legislature. At present, this bill has not been adopted by the Legislature. The Governor appreciates hearing your views and asked that I respond on his behalf.

The Executive Office of the Governor follows all bills as they move through the legislative process. Generally, Governor Crist does not take a position on a specific bill until it has been adopted by the Legislature and presented for his action, as bills can be amended substantially during the legislative process. Please be assured, when final legislation is presented to the Governor, the concerns and views of Floridians like yourself weigh in his decisions.

Again, thank you for taking the time to write to Governor Crist. Your thoughts are very important to him. You may also wish to share your comments with your local legislators as they develop and make decisions on related legislative proposals.

Sincerely,

Thomas C. Hobbs
Executive Office of the Governor

Check out the bills that are listed on this link.

Take a look at the confidence rating on each one and tell me what you think is going to happen with this one.

While the propensity for the bill to pass is certainly high, there is nothing to indicate a prediction of its passing in its present form.

Perhaps there is merit in lobbying both houses of your congress to omit from this bill the portion that the governor vetoed last session for the same reasons.

Does your governor have the right to a line item veto?

I don't think this Governor will be vetoing the bill this time around.

Not the entire bill, due to the wind mitigation addition. I understand that. But some states empower their governor with a "line item veto" in which he can cut from a bill an item he disagrees with while allowing that part of the bill he does agree with to pass. Does the governor of Florida have this power?

In the states that recently passed legislation how were the existing inspectors handled? What is the norm for this type of instituting regulation where existing businesses are affected?

What if someone recently purchased a franchise inspection company. Would this bill affect them if they were not in business for 3 years?

All in business if the bill passes should be grandfathered, or no grandfathering at all, and everyone meet the states requirements by 2009

That is why I am saying to send as many e-mails to Gov. Crist as you possibly can. He will not pass an unfair bill if he is aware that is unfair. Send e-mails every day.

The reality of the bill is that it is designed (by the special interests who initiated it) to reduce the number of home inspectors in Florida. Casualties are anticipated.

IMO, you will go farther by illustrating to the governor how decreased competition will affect the increased fees and burdens on those who might consider purchasing homes in a region with increasing insurance rates, as well. Let him know that the bill - at least the part of it that applies to home inspectors - is motivated by the greed of special interests and is not in the best interest of the citizens and future citizens of Florida.

Paul I do everyday and so do the guys from the fire department I work at. I have received the same letter from Hobbs. I also have been emailing State Reps. Here is a letter i received from one of the Reps this morning.

Write everyone that has some influence on the bill.

Matt,

Thank you for your email on the Home Inspection Bill. I agree with you
that Government should not change the rules midstream on individuals
and
businesses. I will take a serious look at the bill and how it treats
existing Home Inspectors.

Sincerely,

Thad Altman
House District 30

To the Honorable Thad Altman;

I am very concerned about the negative affect that the proposed Home
Inspection Bill 2234 will have on the livelihoods of home inspectors
across the state. I feel the current bill will put many out of work,
and
is a direct violation of the Sunrise Act.

Not only will this bill hurt the livelihoods of many families, it will
also put additional burden on home buyers in Florida.

The only fair bill would be one that allowed anyone in business to be
able to stay in business, if the bill became law.

Sir, with all due respect Gov Bush recognized the impact this bill
would
have on professionals who are currently in business. Please do not take
away the livelihoods of many.

Sincerely,

Matt Hawley

All

Please start sending more emails, mails and make phone calls.

State that only one HI org is for it out of the nations big three

State that we are 1000 plus members strong in Florida

State that there is a big question if someone recently purchased a franchise inspection company or for that matter or any inspection company.

State that there is a problem with a son taking over dad's inspection business and does not have enough time to be grandfathered and dad dies

As RR has done out west some want to build a business - sell it and retire

I would think that Inspection Depot would also have a dog in this fight

Perhaps it has two dogs in this fight -- one for it and one against it

Richard, when you get a list let me know and i will help with the emails.

We have to fight this bill and if it does pass we have to push for a "line item veto" as James has pointed out.

This bill should not affect anyones existing business.
