Sounds like a good meeting, wish I could have mad it.
I'm betting being a member of a trade organization as of July 2010 will meet the educational requirements of licensing, but taking a proctored exam will still be required by all.

I agree. I think they will accept the education of the existing HI's, but they will probably require a test. I don't think they like that idea, but that may be the only realistic way to get it done. I liked the speaker who accused the DBPR of dragging their feet. He had a point - the bill was signed 2 years ago, and now they're faced with the implementation of the law, with no administrative rules.
Any feeling for what will be required of a test?

Nick -
At the next meeting, you should make the offer for the DBPR representatives to view all the online courses as well as NACHI-TV episodes. I think they would feel much more comfortable if they saw the online education for themselves...

Andrew, the department has already reviewed all our courses www.nachi.org/education.htm

The department hasn't dragged their feet. They are simply (as of yet) unfunded.

I was thrilled at the InterNACHI turn out. About 185 of 200 attendees were InterNACHI members. Here is a PIC: http://www.nachi.org/orlando-2009.htm

All the NACHI shirts easily proved that.

I know they were underfunded, and the delay wasn't the fault of DBPR. In fact, I wondered if and how they would get anything going at all.
I just thought it was funny how he accused them of "dragging their feet" - I think the comment caught their attention.
I really do think this series of open meetings is a good idea and a sign that the DBPR is at least making an effort to make the implementation of the law as painless as possible.

I remember at the time he signed the bill, our esteemed (cough, cough) governor Charlie Narcicrist stated that there was no reason not to sign the bill since everyone had three years to comply.

I'll bet it will be more like three months!

I guess I must have been at a different meeting. Good to see things are beginning to happen. I have three guys (CIE's)going to the Margate mold meeting today, it will be interesting to hear their perspective.

Doug, that was an exact quote from the former ASHI President, Mark Cramer and he is 100% correct. Also, the rep from ACAC said essentially the same thing on the public record and then I confirmed his position again outside after the meeting where he emphasized that consumers mostly want to know "causation."

These ding dongs that run around taking samples without knowing anything about grading, roofing leaks, plumbing leaks, EIFS, stucco, ventilation, condensation, etc (without being home inspectors) have no business in the mold business. Performing a proper mold inspection requires a holistic approach. That is why IAC2 requires membership in InterNACHI.

Great Job Nick. We should of mentioned that Realtors are able to take a approved online class for there 63 hours. Cooke Real Estate for example http://www.cookeschool.com/ does it online and you take the quiz and test online. The state says its ok then why not InterNACHI.
