The ironic thing through all of this is that apparantly many states feel that the general happy harry homeowner is qualified. Many states allow electrical work to be accomplished by the DIY Homeowner without the necessity of having an electrical license.
If legislators, boards, or whatever are truly concerned about public safety, why then have they not mandated that a "Warning label" be placed on the dead fronts exterior cover that clearly explains the dangers of arc flash, etc. With this in mind, I clearly agree with Joe F. and wonder - "What is the true meaning of qualified"?. www.buildingcenter.org Quickly determine the date of manufacture, age or production of most HVAC and Water Heating equipment |

NACHI SoP do not clearly require cover removal. In fact there is limitation language that implies is not required. I know everyone does it anyway. Just seems ironic to teach safety and ignore the manufacturers recommendation. But then inspectors do need to take care of themselves. |
