Default Michigan Licensing

A bill was introduced two days ago to license Home Inspectors. I have not read it thoroughly but will later today. I know bill have been introduced every year for the last five years and seem to have disappeared. The Bill is House Bill 4162 (2009) I think this will get you there http://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(jta...-4162&query=on .

I did see they want to use the NHIE test or something similar.

Bill

That number seems familiar..hmmm...I wonder what made them decide 200 was a valid number of inspection as opposed to 100 or even 400.

Concerning the NHIE. Anyone who has taken the exam can attest that it is an entry level exam just like any other exam and does not necessarily qualify a person to inspect jack squat.

On the other hand is there anything wrong with protecting the public in some way? In this state one can simply grab a flashlight and go for it. I'm not saying that happens but I don't know. Licensing would at least afford some protection to the public right?

Whom are they referring to that might interfere in the inspector/client relationship?

A PERSON SHALL NOT
5 INTENTIONALLY OR WILLFULLY INTERFERE IN THE HOME INSPECTOR-CLIENT
6 RELATIONSHIP OR ANY COMMUNICATIONS ARISING FROM THE HOME
7 INSPECTOR-CLIENT RELATIONSHIP.

Your freedoms as a home inspector, as in Kansas, will no longer exist. YOU will have to go by their rules, reguations, education, pay THEIR fees, pay insurance, and anything else special interest groups, marketing companies, and real estate agents can come up with. Licensing only levels the playing field. Laws only benefit people who write them. They do not protect the consumer. Everyone has a license to drive. But, are they good drivers?

Buckle up.

It looks like they want to get us from both sides. The Senate introduced a bill (senate Bill 0355) on 3-10 to license Home Inspectors. It's the same as House Bill 4162 but with more sponsors.

Our Governor has PROMISED not to raise taxes any more. This is an attempt to raise revenue by lining people up against the wall and making them pay yearly to stay in business.
