Default Minnesota CO detector requirements reminder

New Carbon Monoxide Detector Requirements(Minnesota)

The second development arises out of new 2006 legislation that will require carbon monoxide detectors to be installed in residential real estate. The new legislation requires every single family dwelling and every dwelling unit in a multifamily dwelling to have an approved and operational carbon monoxide alarm installed within ten feet of each room lawfully used as a bedroom. The new legislation will be codified as Minnesota Statutes section 200F.51.

The new legislation first becomes effective on

-January 1, 2007, when all newly constructed single family homes or multifamily dwelling units for which building permits were issued on or after the effective date must comply with the new requirements.

-On August 1, 2008, all existing single family homes must comply with the requirements.

-On August 1, 2009, all multifamily dwelling units must comply with the requirements. On or before the effective dates, the required dwellings must have carbon monoxide alarms that are certified by a nationally recognized testing facility and conform to the latest Underwriters Laboratories Standards.

Linus, You guys must run faster as I see IL requires them to be 15ft from sleeping rooms and Minnesota requires only 10 ft.

Any word on the current compliance rate in your state now that it's been in effect for a year?
