Too funny, I am not not bashing NACHI only the CMI designation. If I read the "masters" web site corectly, CMI is a pointless designation as they are offering a real one for folks that have served there time in the HI industry and not just time served in a comprable trade or as I read it "time alive counts". I did 4 years of High school so that's 8000 hrs towards CMI.....

I'm not sure it is "marketing" exactly. One one hand it may be a pooor attempt at again using the court to try to intimidate and on another an effort to keep the spin going with respect to how they represented the agreement to members. Of course it could be a little of both.

Is saying that "I've done over 1,000 inspections" a "marketing ploy?"

Certified Master Inspector, like all professional designations in all industry's, (http://www.realtor.org/runivers.nsf/pages/designation) is obviously going to be used for marketing purposes. Althought I think CMI is particularly good at fee structure raising.

I'm not sure that I plan to apply for the CMI designation but it seems that it is a valid combination of related education and experience, code of ethics, SOP and criminal background check. One would be safe to say that there is a better chance of getting a competent inspector than to just "let your fingers do the walking".

I'm not sure we are reading the same requirements. I don't know how one could even think of including high school. I'm not finding a reference to "time alive".

Looks on the up and up to me, and I am a pretty dyed in the wool skeptic.

Saying that CMI is too easy to get is a much different complaint than saying it is being used as a marketing ploy.
