Steve I just don't see it happening that way. I market myself as the third party inspection. No interest in the transaction. I also don't rely on new home inspections as my bread and butter either. Been doing this awhile. We'll see.

Nick,
Looking over the training materials for the Wind Mitigation Course. It looks like the course is designed to be for the My Safe Florida Home Form (which I believe is a defunct program)? There are issues with the Uniform Mitigation Verification Form (OIR-B1-1802) that were not addressed by this program (and the instructors from UF would not discuss the OIR form). Is the course going to address specifics of the OIR form? One big distinction is that staples used for roof deck connection is not an option on the OIR form. Any guidance on these types of issues would be useful. |

As soon as the form is finalized, we'll add a section of the course that addresses "how-to" complete the form. This is the latest version that I know of. OIR-B1-1802_Rev_8-5-09.pdf
Is there a later version? Once you take the InterNACHI wind mitigation course, you should be able to fill out any form that the state or insurer requires. That's one of the objectives of the training course. The OIR is having a meeting about the form on 11-17-09 9:00 a.m.
The Capitol Form OIR-B1- 1802 FSC Cabinet Meeting Rule: 69O-170.0155 This rule is being amended to adopt a revised version of Office of Insurance Regulation form OIR-B1-1802, “Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form”. The form is being revised based on changes to the My Safe Florida Home program and the experience of the Office of Insurance Regulation, insurers and policyholders with the form since its last revision in July 2007. I, by my signature below certify that I and, if applicable, my employee who performed the inspection, have passed the appropriate equivalency test of theBuilding Code Training Program as required by Section 553.841, Florida Statutes.
What is this Building Code Training Program thingy? I read the statute, It looks like CE for contractors, Engineers etc.
On 1802 form it looks like it only applies to Engineers signing the form and their employee who performed the inspection? |

i have not heard of any inspectors getting sued after hurricane wilma, and we lost a lot of roofs here in broward county. Most of the older inspections i re-do are wrong. Now, the requirement of certification make the inspector more culpable, in my case- am putting my license on the line every time i perform, sign, and submit each inspection. I am in no way optimistic about the future of the wind-mitigation program, but do believe it is becoming somewhat more legitimate.
