Nick -

You're using a 1.5 year ago position. Show me the new one please.

I 100% agree with their statement of 1.5 years ago (3/06) even though it is no longer current. Which actually makes me correct in my opinion.

Dan Harris, my understanding is that there is a movement (which I support) within ASHI to adopt at least 1 or 2 entrance requirements, can you confirm?
Haven't heard anything about this.
I personally don't see any need for this with state Lic.
Keep on a believing that your the leader, I'm just here to help field calls from the few that make it, when they call requesting how can they belong to the HI org that offers on going CE and local support from established inspectors, and the org the majority of local realtors and other Real Estate professionals are asking new and established inspectors if they are a member of when they are out there marketing.

Dan Bowers...

You mean they've changed their unethical position to an ethical one recently? Wonder what made them do that all of a sudden? Hee hee.

I heard some of the Pennsylvania crowd kept whining and to keep the peace they put themselves in the same pit as other groups. As you and I well know most groups do that, they just set up as a separate company.

So instead of doing it strait forward they tap dance around the flag pole.

Good info. Perhaps we can now refer to them as "the recently attempting to act ethically, no-member-benefit association out of Minneapolis." I think Sudan outlawed slavery just before this little association caught up with the rest of the civilized world.

What planet is he on? Each day that passes, fewer and fewer of ANYBODY (Realtor, Sellers, Clients) ask ANYONE what association(s) they are a member of. If that is happening where you are Dan, you surely live in a place that is the least representative of what is going on across the country.

The next person to ask me what association I belong too will be the first.

Licensing (agents pointing to the list of state licensed inspectors) combined with negligent referral suits (agents, afraid of getting sued, pointing to their clients to the internet and telling their clients to research inspectors there) are causing more and more consumers to hit our sites which steer consumers to our member's individual inspection websites.

Monster traffic sites such as
http://www.al-home-inspector.org/other.php and www.OverSeeIt.com and www.MoveInCertified.com and www.InspectorSEEK.com and www.IAC2.org and www.CorrectInspect.com and www.FindanInspector.us and www.InspectorLocator.com and www.InspectorNOW.com continue to get more and more traffic.

Furthermore, our member's own sites are getting more traffic and doing better in rankings, in large part becuase their search engine optimization in enhanced by having big traffic sites (like those aforementioned) linking to them. Much of what helps a site's ranking is having big sites link to it (I know, some members think it's their own choice of metatags ).

Doug,

Most likely it is just because you don't market in an area where ASHI has been successfully marketing their members locally for over a decade to the tune of about $25K per year. Here in Tampa it is a common question and of course the proper answer is... Yes, I am a full member of ASHI.

Outside the Greater Tampa Bay area though, I agree the question is never raised.

Joe.

I am on Planet AZ , just stating the quotes on calls from local inspectors looking to join ASHI and AZ ASHI..

Like Joe B stated it's a local thing in his area
.. That may be a factor, I can honesly say I receive several calls every year from people from other states that also ask 1st thing , am I an ASHI member..as well as getting many inspections off my web that states I am a member..

Since Licensing in 2003, to date, I have never had a realtor, and had only one customer ask me if I was state lic or certified.

100s have ask me if I am an ASHI member or stated that's why they hired me.

If new customers, 40 plus a month, called me first, or another local member referred me due to being to busy, why would a customer call you or another inspector???

With regard to SEO, I'd rather have a slurppy spider than anyone or thing else. Check out the highest traffic sites in the industry: http://www.nachi.org/alexasitecomparison.htm
