I did not renew with Ashi. Even though I have been a full member in the past.
I don't like their closed narrow focus on CEU which they deem worthy to the exclusion of others.

Nor did I care for how Canadian members are given second billing. If you go to find a Cdn Ashi member you either have to know the postal code or the inspectors name or look for the full list of members at the bottom of the page at this link.

ASHI is a highly respected organization, and inspectors everywhere owe them a debt of gratitude. Like me and many others, they've been slow to realize that they're tied to a linear-literary technology and model that Nick Gromicko has single-handedly proven is obsolete. But, as we know, change is glacially slow, but that when nature wants something done she invents a genius, and Nick just happens to be the genius in our industry.

If anyone thinks they are a better inspector strictly based on their affiliation with one organization over another, have lost their minds.
(oh and for those that actually have lost their minds, I mean that in the most respectful way)

Mario's words ring true (again).

First thing they ask is "how much?"

Have been asked once in 5 years which association I belong to.

ASHI did not give me a chance to renew .
ASHI lets OAHI RHI members join ASHI.
When I got an Invitation to join ASHI I did .
When I did not renew my Membership with OAHI ashi removed my ASHI membership .
They called and offered to send back the unused part of my membership.
I said I had heard that OAHI and ASHI where having some financial difficulties and that they should keep refund and use it to try and keep ASHI alive .
They told me that ASHI was not short of funds but I wonder if that is so.

Kinda makes you wonder why bother being a member with any association? I haven't been asked what associations I belong to, its been so long I forgot when the last time was.

I guess it has more to do with reputation and length in business than anything else.

Keith

You are correct and I know Ray was just being facetious. I'm a member of NACHI because I choose to be, for me not my clients.

As far as I'm concerned, Raymond and NACHI's Canadian inspectors can do no wrong.

Gosh this sounds the Liberals praising Hillary on her health plan and wanting to give every new born $5,000.

You all sit back and continue to believe somebody is going to give you something for free, think that customers do not call or search out ASHI inspectors, and are only calling nickies certified for the cheapest price, keep on a dreaming while I continue to do my 40 plus every month..

My phone rings 2-3 times daily with customers asking how soon can I do the inspection, yours???
oh yea why would a customer ask an ASHI inspector he's an ASHI member if thats how they found him in the first place.

Truth is , Educated clients do give a dam about affiliation, you just have to be affiliated with the right org locally and nationally to find that out.

Dan

I allways get the "How much do you charge" line. I never get the "Are you a member of NACHI,ASHI" line [at least not yet]. When I finish with my inspection [as I'm sure holds true with you] I get paid and my clients are pleased with my Inspection.

BTW From my experience Educated= Wealthy and they are the clients that care most about the bottom line....price/cost!!

You should also consider joining NACHI. It is the consumers preferred org. in NORTH AMERICA!!!

Actually I was trying to be philosophical, but alas it has backfired. I was trying to impart that membership as far as the clients are concerned does not solely rely on membership.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Cheers,

Mario.. I never said they ask me, in fact I can honestly say I've been asked if I was either State or ASHI certified maybe 10 times over the past 6 plus years, instead they stated they called me due to my org affiliation opposed to calling another inspector.
