The problem with that of course is that the idea of "common ground" is by its very nature pro-licensing. The only people who ever really need to get together to discuss the issues are those who are attempting to put together some kind of consensus or coalition to promote "good licensing". Those of us who oppose licensing need not reach any consensus with regards to why we oppose licensing, the simple fact that we do suffices.

The only benefit I can see with getting those who oppose licensing together with the supporters of licensing is to drive home to the legislators the reality that there is no consensus of support for home inspector licensing within the various home inspector associations. Comments welcome.

Jeers: The "home inspector" you hire to check out that house you're thinking about buying might not know a dry well from dry rot. According to The Olympian newspaper, which cited several tales of homeowners who paid dearly for lousy inspections, Washington is one of 19 states that do not require home inspectors to be licensed.
The Legislature this year rejected a bill to require that home inspectors know what they're doing and be licensed, but it did order a Department of Licensing study. A public hearing is set for June 13 in Burien, near Seattle. More information: 360-902-3723.

The only point I was attempting to make, and maybe didn't make it clearly, is that legislators often do not follow through with proposed legislation if they are offered alternatives that they feel will either provide some protection to the public, or get their collective butts off the hook. I appreciate the suggestions and feedback so far, and would appreciate any more. Thanks.

It would be nice if more Washington inspectors came here to discuss issues surrounding this legislation, however.... who could take this 3 ring circus very seriously.

BTW what did you think about the idea of removing the grandfathering clause from the inspection legislation?
It's funny Harold. I'm probably the only one he wasn't referring to. Sorry but no cigar.

Same goes to you Lewis.

Oh, and yes, everything you said about me again is a lie. I may not do "your" definition of an inspection, but like Nick said, we all are expanding and growing and should not limit ourselves to a "home" inspection organization.
So I do my thing and you do your thing and you really should stay out of my thing.

Nick and NACHI's job is to help keep ASHI and other Associations from writing legislation favorable only to them, Nick does a good job fighting that, it's great to have him and a 10,000 member Association to keep the legislation Non-Association Friendly, but like Nick has said, the proposed Washington Legislation does not appear to have Association Bias. Nick or NACHI cannot address the Committee with a United or Common Stand, because we as members, have no such thing. To Represent one side of the issue Nick would have to crap on members on the other side.
Good Post, Lewis...

In keeping with NACHI's freedom based philosophy, NACHI is generally hesitant to put out "NACHI" position statements, as NACHI finds it difficult to speak for every member. Members often have very different opinions on many issues and NACHI wishes to honor that. With regard to legislation, NACHI only chooses sides so to speak when arguing against association bias. In fact, our position on legislation is almost entirely based on association bias (or really...opposition to it). If proposed legislation contains any association bias we fight it. Otherwise, individual members are left free to voice their opinions and take their own actions regarding local legislation that effects them or their business directly.

NACHI's President has, on behalf of and as a representative of the association, officially opposed legislation that is association biased and also puts existing members out of work and creates undue hardship upon others wanting to enter the field (to wit, "mentoring" programs). Nick Gromicko has supported that, as well.

As an association, NACHI has officially opposed the legislating of certain marketing plans.

We used to spend either Christmas or New Years, sometimes both, up at Sucia, one year we were there an it was snowing snowflakes the size of silver dollars, the sky was lit up from the lights in Bellingham and you could see the snow falling clear out at the mouth of the Bay. Why would I ever give up experiences like that just for work?
We stayed at Blind Island State Park the first night (That is off of Shaw Islands' northern bay), and then went over the Friday Harbor for the next two nights. Blind Island had a lot of wildflowers in bloom and harbor seals were hanging out on the reef not far away.

We will get up to Sucia again, that is my favorite island. We normally stay in Fossil Bay. We have never stayed at Patos yet. Will have to try it out.

We don't normally take the boat out in the winter. Short days, and long nights. ....and no diesel furnace.

Next time you go to Sucia, try Echo Bay, or if your boat is not too big Ewing Cove, beautiful sandstone sculptures, after Labor day was always my favorite time, the crowds are gone, but the Fog is back. I fell in love with both my heater and my radar. Hmmmm, maybe I shold build my new house on my lot at Birch Bay instead of here.

Echo Bay can be smooth until the wind changes direction. We were on the hook one night and it was like glass, then next morning there was some nice wave action rolling in. Not real comfortable. But we did some clamming there and made out really well.

About building at Birch Bay...think taxes
....All the water front homes in our area have been raked over the coals with property taxes. I hear that it is not so bad back there, but you know the grass is always greener.
I would try to determine if you can live with the tax bill. Check it out.
