No backer rod and sealant joints as per most window mfgrs. specs.

Properly flashed windows. imho

Even though these are with stucco it can be done with any cladding.

The sill of the window under the trim to kick the water out over the cladding.
The head of the window.
The trim above the head of the window.

You're just so danged picky. Looks and flash are what matter, and what SELLS! It's all about appearance and has been for years. Get a life, get over it, and let the biggest investment of your life fall down around your ears!

Current philosophy and whatever you want to call it shows that people tend to move in 5 years. That's ALL they're shooting for.
