Grout needed?

New construction. I informed my clients that without grout, water would get behind the stones and deteriorate the mortar. Builder looked at me like a had a monkey on my face. Shouldn’t there be grout between all the stones to protect the mortar from the elements?

It is a dry stack application of veneer siding…
and a poor one at that…

This is for Eldorado stone which is what the siding appears to be…

Thanks Joe

Shouldn’t they be tighter together for a dry stack?

Thanks Barry

I had actually found that already. To me it looks like a failed attempt at a dry stack. I can still see the scratch coat. Do you guys agree?

plan on routine yard policing esp. in y’alls freezing climate

LOl yard policing? For debonded stones?

¡Si!

with dry stack it is not a matter of if it will fall, it is just a matter of when it will fall …doesn’t matter what the builder says…it is a very temporary covering…especially in freeze thaw cycles…

Very true my friend.

Started growing that beard already I see :stuck_out_tongue:

ACMV (Adhered Concrete Masonry Veneer) should be inspected just like stucco, there is very little difference. Look for flashing above and below and all verticals should be caulked / backer rod. The goal is to keep water from getting behind especially if freeze thaw cycles are an issue in your area, they will pop the stone right off the wall. Also the veneer must be kept above grade to deter moisture from wicking up behind. I see this stuff every day in a very harsh climate and it is just fine IF it is installed in accordance with manufacturers installation instructions (which it seldom is around here).

Stone Veneer Siding
- Improperly installed dry stack installation of fabricated stone siding.
- Recommend replacement of the stone veneer siding at this time.
