Bob,

It is in better shape than our famous 50 year old Champlain Bridge.
It will have to be replaced! Maintenance is a loosing battle.
Wat the beam treated (primed properly), amyways, must be grinded and protected with a sort of epoxy sealant paint.
Salut!

It was the verb " painted " that I was intending be implied as for use in the sentence BOB.
By me saying paint I am not implying to use a alkide of latex, but to ( paint the surface with a sealer to .....)
I know that there are many liquid materials that will cover building surfaces.
I did not understand that there are silicon based ( paints ) out there.
Just as when I install or repair metal lentils I apply red oxide to slow down the progression of rust.
I was a bit confused about the term silicon.

Nice photo illustration BOB.
Now I see a flashing in the brick line. Is this representative of the actual walls pocket and behind it a kick flashing.
I am confused if it is becase I see several rain kick flashings on the wall.
One at the copping stone one at the foundation brick starter and one at the pocket.
If not do not reply.
We talked about the flashing at copping stone bedding on another form. I see it as a bad thing myself. Adding a elament not needed and can counter act its benafits by breaking the copping stones bedding through expansion and contraction. Especially at the start of the curing phase. The metal will reach temps that exceed 140 Fahrenheit and dry out the masonry bedding to fast for 1. .
Its a new process to handle water on the wall and I have never seem that before.
Normally it a metal angle iron to carry weight load, tied into the wall ( tied in with bolting or sometimes wield ) and that exposed joint is then doweled and caulked with expansive caulk.

Marc do not tell them how we build bridges. I am ashamed.
Everyone forget what Marc has just said about the Champlain bridge. Erase it from your memories.
The Champlain Bridge is a 9th and 10th wounder of the world.
Meaning 9th, its a wounder its still standing and another 10th ,its a wonder that more people have not died on it yearly.
HA HA HA.
Good old Quebec and its masterful thinking.
Metropolitan Expressway.or depress-way, worst engineering road project in North America.
As for bridge engineering whops a couple fell down over the last few years. Can it be over sight and graft?
Do not worry " We know best " and French is the only language one should ever speak in Quebec" just do not leave to go anywhere else in Canada, or the rest of the world ( except for France and Haiti ).

WOOOO is me !!!!!
