Default OSB With Building Wrap On It (new product)

How many have seen this on new Builds?

http://www.gp.com/build/product.aspx?pid=6403
Nautilus™ Wall Sheathing

Nautilus™ wall sheathing is an entirely new system with a pre-applied, weather-resistant barrier. That means the OSB wall sheathing is protected against rain and moisture from the time it arrives on the jobsite. This saves the extra step of installing a building wrap, which can translate into savings of time and money for you.

"Once the sheathing is installed, the weather barrier is installed too, so you don't have to worry about heavy rains or moisture issues before building wrap is installed. Georgia-Pacific has simplified wall sheathing and weather barrier installation for me and my crew."
Chad Bell
Blue Sky Construction
Gainesville, Georgia

All You Need Is A Framing Crew
  • Installs like typical OSB wall sheathing.
  • The nailing guidelines on the OSB panel are visible.
  • Overall, a faster and more efficient installation process than a two-step sheathing/building wrap installation.
Fewer Air Leaks – Greater Energy Efficiency

Once your wall panels are up and the seams are taped with the code-compliant Nautilus seam tape, the structure is better protected from air leaks, helping improve energy efficiency. And you get improved protection against moisture because your structure is dried-in more quickly.

Better Looking

Our patent-pending OSB wall sheathing product is more uniform and consistent than what you typically find with the installation of a separate building wrap. The weather-resistant barrier is fully adhered to the panel, reducing the risk of wind damage. That's a better reflection on you and the quality of your work.

Code-Compliant

Both Nautilus wall sheathing and Nautilus 3" seam tape are code-compliant.

The nautilus is thought to be nature's most inspired design. Its two-layered shell gives it double protection from the elements… not unlike the two-part construction of its namesake,
Georgia-Pacific Nautilus™ wall sheathing.

Carl, the zip system is been out for a while, but I believe the GP product is still in it's enfancy, because I can't find any information on it.

I would assumme that this product from GP will be a competitive product of the same as the Zip system.

Not enough information on the Nautilus product to make a comparison with the Zip Product.

Hi. Larry and hope you are fairing well.

I read somewhere or video that it is nailed with airguns and the nails have to be not recessed more than 1/8" deep.

Now to me, 1/8" deep has already gone through this so called water proof membrane. So, I guess a person is not fully convinced until problems occurr with these products down the road.

I have not seen either of these products around here nor specified for any.

Time will tell.

When are they gonna figure out about the joints and all the tapes?

Just like tyvek and the horizontal joints taped to trap moisture in!

I guess the moisture has to escape around the tape.
The product is permeable to the extent of letting moisture out of the wall towards the outside except where the tape is.

Hell, no ones perfect. ha. ha.

And instead of the tape on the horizontal joints put metal drip cap flashing there!

OK!!!

How about filling the wall with Fix-a-Flat!

I bet if someone contacted them and ask about overdriven fasteners they would say just tape over them.

They would probably say, if it is not flat or broke, don't fix it. ha. ha.
