Default Ring on the roof

I found a ring attached to the roof. It looks as though it is attached to a bracket on a roof truss. I expect that it was a part of the installation process, but why was it left behind? Shouldn't it be removed?

I agree it was for safety tie down. Unfortunately, OSHA Standards for a Life-line hook-up has to be rated for 5000#. I would still hook up to that rather than slide off the roof.
Nice to see that the OSB was manufactured in Easton , Maine. About the few industries left in this Aroostook County other than Paper Mills and those are closing everyday.

That looks like a standard guy wire hookup for an amateur short-wave radio antenna. I have a lot of them around here because there are a lot of short-wave radio guys operating here, especially when Mother and Father Nature come a-callin' (wildfires, earthquakes, and mudslides). We also had a lot of short-wave radio operators in Texas for hurricanes and tornadoes.

That does seem to make sense, especially, since it appears lower down the roof than near the ridge where I have seen the safety tie downs.

Looks like it is about a foot and a half down from the ridge to me.

Yes but the clamp they used I wonder how could they fasten it to the ridge .
Nice and handy to the light bulb for heat never have much ice on it if they leave the light turned on.

I understand the safety issues here but in my mind if the roofing guys leave them exposed it is just a leak waiting to happen. Tuck them under the sheeting and be done with it.

Or use the safety bracket that you see below and remove it when done working on the roof.

Depending on the size of the antenna, as well as the number of antennas (both of which indicate the seriousness and/or experience of the short-wave radio operator), as well as the location of the antenna (which affects antenna coverage), as well as the siting of the structure (which affects where the guy wires are run), one can find guy wire hooks anywhere on a roof, ground, sides of buildings, etc. Even had one house a few months ago where two neighbors were both serious operators and had used each other's roof for guy wires to their antenna. One of the neighbor's was my Client's prospective house. Of course, I had to point that out to my Client, who wasn't exactly happy that someone else's antenna was attached to his roof, which left his roof open to leaks around the guy wire hooks.

Briefly read y'alls notes. Is it a guy wire thinga ma giggie? Never see them leave roofing jacks here. It did look like a very walkable pitch though and probably only a two story at most, so leaving a safety jack seems like a waste (unless it's a code to leave it) especially since they will only caulk it where it penetrates the roof which may end up leaking.

Odd to see it exposed. Around here they usually put a rubber boot cover over it. Id make sure there isn't a water penetration point at the roof surface of this one. Just a thought.
