When you leave them, doesn't anyone complain?

I agree that some of those safety rings or attachments, should be removed when done, and left clean for aesthetics reason. If such roof style would have serviceable equipment of any kind and the roof pitch were to be in the range of 6/12 ,12/12, then I would consider leaving and having the roofer sealing them properly at the ridge and assure that the hook-up meets OSHA requirements for the tie off. The tie off rings or eye bolts should be galvanized or stainless and a minimum of 3/4" diameter to meet the 5000# test.

But if they are, indeed, for the antenna guy wires, they don't need to meet the 5000# test. They usually get left behind at the SWR houses and no one notices until a home inspector or roofing contractor comes along to find them.

I think Russel may be right. This was probably for a wire support. The safety tie-off for roofers that I am used to seeing looks like the ones in these pictures.
The loop at the top gets folded over to one side of the ridge when the roofer is done and lay flat. It will still be visible after completion of the roof. Last edited by rrichards2; 8/22/06 at 10:56 PM.. |

Maybe it was used to anchor Christmas decorations on the roof!?
