Default Sill Flashings!

Why is it that

http://www.sbionline.org/pdf/Flashin...%20English.pdf

Understands the importance of sill flashing yet with other claddings it seems to be out of the question?

Put it in my goggle note book
I was driving around looking at all the new Mc Mansions yesterday and noticing how they all forget weepholes above the windows

most likely not.
They all cut the down spouts short to so they do not cross the sidewalk.
Very short sited.

Carl,

Around here, I think builders might think "Flashing" was a fad in the eighties........and does not relate to a portion of the building envelope.....

I'm in total agreement but please point to current reference/documentation.

We've been writing hard reports on phase around here for years and are stating to see some compliance from the builders that care.

These builders are and few between and I could drive you through entire neighborhoods that were circa BOCA CABO SBCCI ICBO built with no weeps anywhere.

You know as well as I it's all about what the AHJ is willing to "write" for, weeps being very far down the ladder of property or life loss.

The photo depicts the normal installation for the better homes around here and they are now starting to do the same "clean out" above the windows, but note where weeps were left out on this job, right under the window and flahings are still a joke if present at all...it takes time and a lot of patient reminders to get things anywhere near minimum standards.

That sill detail is easy to use when there is trim around a window no matter what the cladding! Of course my examples are with stucco.

I showed these details to a contractor (and his masonry sub) today. The sub just laughed. "Nobody does this", he laughed.

The contractor fired him, right on the spot.

Some days are just wonderful, ain't they
