pre 1960 you might not see much of any caseing beads, control joints backer rod and sealant joints.

But they used real wood behind the stucco then and real asphalt saturated paper.

And even put a real base cote on and a finish cote in most cases not the crap they are now calling stucco.

At the bottom of the wall where the caseing bead is there should be weepscreed
http://amico-lath.com/lath/foundation_weep_screed.htm

Although some onecote mfgrs. say that weeping 66/caseing bead will work.

“J” METAL 3/8” to 1 3/8” GROUNDS
This square nosed casing was originally provided in 1 3/8" to accommodate 1" of rigid insulation and 3/8" of one-coat stucco with weep holes in the ground flange located under the rigid insulation. This casing or plaster stop now includes one-coat casing beads for use with approved one-coat systems that require this type of bead at the base of the wall. Nailing flange width is 3 ½ inches. This should not be considered a true foundation weep screed for three-coat stucco applications. "J" metal is manufactured in Fontana, CA.
