Marcel, I for one know you are more than qualified to make this judgment call, been there myself more than once.
I would do just as your doing, CYA, finish the job and move on.
Good luck!!

Thanks Pete, I value your opinion as one contractor to another.
Job is done and now I need to go get paid.

Off to another one.
Maybe the next one, I should just look at it like a carpenter and not an Inspector in me.

And it's done.

I hated 12"x12" staple up tile 40 years ago and they are still hard to put up and keep straight.

Marcel,

thank you for the slow stripping "Tease" of the cold bedroom.

BTW, The broker is not a member of the Quebec OACIQ I am sure.

You did what you had to do but as roofers always work it in theri estimates, other tradesmen also, when I see what is underneath, I may ask you to pay for extras as I will not put my responsability in question and fix the place so an accident can happen.

Here in the construction world, it is called EXTRAS!

I must admit that it looks cleaner without all the crap and the smelly stuff.

One more question though, does the roof leak or did it before you started the job? .......

Salut,

Beauchemin,Marc-Andre

Marc, the roof leaked before and was repaired last year. I also got payment from the owner and we discussed the structural problem and he has pictures that were sent to him when I was there doing the job.

As I said earlier, this structural problem will not make it collapse, but could worsen over the next few years and the new ceiling will look like a piece of crap one more time.
The owner did not want to pay for fixing the problem, he wants to flip the apartment complex in the near future. I won't be inspecting that one and from what I saw while there, I don't want too. It is over 100 years old and in bad condition even with all the upgrades it has received.
He was happy with the work with what condition I had and gave me a job to look at an exterior stair on another apartment complex tomorrow.

I did what I was paid to do and went the extra mile to advise of other problems and chose not to heed my warning of the problem.
I now move on. I also charge him a little less than the extimate and he was tickled pink.

Well, considering the issues with this little cover up, it gave me another repair job.

And this one needs it before someone gets hurt.

Marcel,
You take a great amount of pride in your work and rightfully so and each job that you do is an advertisement for you and your work. The next person that see's this will say "Who's the dumb sob that did this?" He probably won't care if you were just doing what your client asked. Your reputation is something money can't buy and if your client can't or won't understand that then it may be best to part company. He is asking YOU to cover up a serious defect. The next person to buy this will be stuck with this issue. My dad was a builder for forty five years and would have never done this and he always needed the money. Your client will most likely ask you to do it again and each time you do it he owns a little more of you.

Well, at least this one he let me repair it right.

That stair was an accident to happen.

Got this one done on Tuesday.

Looked at two more jobs today.

Thanks Jeff, and now he wants me to jack this up on this one.
I sent him an email that jacking will not solve the problem on this.

I am still scratching my head on this one.
