Oh, and I'm in a 900sqfooter and just a small kitchen with a great room. My fridge is triangulated with the fridge on the left close corner, and the stove all the way in the right back corner. According to all the construction people I've talked to, for energy efficiency you should have the stove as far away from the fridge as possible. I learned that years ago.

Whether it is now or 40 years ago, it is still commen sense to have a counter top of at least 15" wide next to the refrigerator and the stove. To me that is common sense and a requirement if any. I agree with you Wendy, that the triangulation is required to a maximum of 21', this might not be accurate since I have not done Residential designs since 1973.
