Since you guys are on the subject,do you write up a ceiling vent light which terminates with no draw?
Even if it has the required window (bathroom).
This happened at a Condo and it failed the tissue test.

Bob,

I check for draw with a piece of paper or tissue.

I do write it up as not fuctioning correctly even when there is a window as most never get opened in the winter in my area.

I report all fixtures and their operation whether they are required or not. If it operates on a switch and it's not working correctly, it's in my report.

Generally I begin on exterior from top to bottom, making mental notes as to vent terminations, if any, looking for clues on the roof, soffits, sidewalls, basement windows, etc. These items may be power roof ventilators, bathroom exhausts, range hood exhausts, downflow Jenn Air exhausts, clothes dryer exhausts.
Next, when checking bathrooms, if there is a ceiling mounted fan I recall my notes and the approximate location of where the termination might be for that particular vent.
Finally, before checking the attic or crawl space, remember to leave all bathroom exhausts in the 'on' position to help determine their locations. Look for visible ducts venting to the exterior and determine if that number equals the number of fans.
Approximately 90% of the residential properties I look at have deficiencies in the category of proper venting. I write them as improperly vented fans, state the possible implications(mold, condensation, insects, etc.), and recommend a qualified contractor evaluate and repair.
By the way, I enjoyed your NACHI TV Episode. I feel you're much too knowlegable for me to be giving you any advice, but this is the method that works for me.
Picture is a violation?

Did the exterior and then the interior, and knew where it was going to be, stuffed under the insulation exiting towards the soffit.

I know, that pink was distracting too.

Yep, there is the window and there is the stain.
Here in snow country, these signs are written on the wall. Never fails to vent in the attic near a soffit line.

I take this a step further...if it's installed in the home, it needs to work properly, whether it's required or not.

That is funny Brian. The guy was not lying, it is connected, it just never been exited to the outside and been adding to the insulation in the attic. I am surprised the OSB is not black, but this must be in a warmer climate.

Good pick of what we normally see.

Marcel
