When a home has a attached breezway or enclosed patio between the garage & house is a fire wall & door still required?

As a fireman in Dallas for nearly 20 yrs, I don't know if it is required, but it should be. Usually though, the fire will travel inside the breezeway/attic space on it's way to the house. I would mention this as a fire safety issue at the minimum. There definitely needs to be a fire-rated system at the door and in the attic above - between the garage and house.

If I understand this correctly, it would apply if the attic space is connected between the two.
