What is the rule about having an attic access in the garage. The separation from the house and garage in the attic is OSB. Does this need to be 5/8 drywall in the attic or is the 5/8" drywall attic access door good enough? Seems to me that if the access door is not fire taped then the "party wall in the attic connecting the garage to house needs to be fire taped.
Thanks Tyler |

Access, walls and ceiling should all be 5/8 drywall or fire protected X type drywall. 1/2 Inch is allowed according to some AHJs.The joints should have mud and tape between the house and garage. The attic access would be best made out of type X drywall.
