8 year old Town home. The decking in the rafter bays on each end had a white paint that was flaking in a big way.
What is the paint for and why is it flaking? no evidence of fire or mold. |

Hi. Rick.
Looks like someone attempted to spray intumescent paint for a firewall protection which often calls for the first four feet of the roof assembly to be rated as well. The OSB should have been primed prior the the intumescent paint install. LEED Green Associates InachiAwardsPortal: Inachi US Member of the Year Award 2009 |

I agree with Marcel.
A failed attempt at fire protection. Attic heat will peal off paint on an unprimed surface pretty quick. |
