The flue and vent chase is partially covered with a type of foam, very dry and falls apart when handled. Home built in 1973, have no idea what the builder was trying to accomplish. I will note in the report that this material is a potentially combustable and should be removed. The chase needs to be sealed in the attic also. Any thoughts?

Looks like UFFI (urea-formaldehyde foam insulation) that was popular in the late 70’s-early 80’s.
Definitely needs to be removed.

Agree, it looks like it was sprayed on the wall and collapsed.
