Default TV Location

Client wants to install plasma TV on wall above (gas) fireplace mantel. Is this OK?

Does this fireplace have a fan unit installed? Is there a mantel above the fireplace? Is there is an alcove above the fireplace where they can recess the TV? I would be very wary of installing an expensive piece of electronics above a fireplace with a fan unit due to the heat it puts out over and above a normal gas unit. I think it would shorten the lifespan of the TV with the increased heat. IMHO.

A dealer of flat-screen TV's told a client of mine that installation above a fireplace was not recommended by the manufacturer. Sorry, I don't know names or brands.
