AC Disconnect Question

Today I came across an Air conditioner with the electrical disconnect mounted on the outside unit, (Not on the wall). Is this allowed?

The code itself doesn’t specify where it has to be located, other than to say it must be accessible.

Looks like an old outdoor unit. I wouldn’t worry too much because the whole things gonna have to be replaced soon.

Exactly what I said !

Thanks

The NEC permits the disconnect mounted on the unit as long as it does not block any access panels.

See it on RTU’s quite a bit. Wish all the electricians followed code and didn’t block the access panels. Nice when they don’t cover the ID tag, either.

That used to aggravate me to no end when they covered the name plate use to see it a lot me thinks they did it on purpose :roll:
